down five with over a minute left..they pressed. rutgers beat it...why not then just play D? they'd have gotten the ball back with 50 seconds left...instead they panic and let them dribble the clock all the way down and THEN foul...AFTER a bucket..thats the way SU has done it for years in end games..they've never played it out even though they could.

The question is: why can't we press? We have a team full of long-armed athletes and good depth, (even with the two guys out). We can't press because the coach doesn't believe in it and the press he uses is poorly designed. if he needs a shot-blocker to press put Frank in there and tell him just to guard the basket and don't worry about anything else for the last couple of minutes. .

Don't have one person on the active roster that can erase a 2 on 1 or 1 on 1 layup at the basket if they press. Not even sure Bourama is capable of that if/when he returns. Not to mention how are they going to press with JG3 or Buddy on the floor. They are not good enough defensively to press.

The last time they had a roster that could major in the press would have been 2011-2012. Think of the athletes and guys that go on to play professionally from that roster.

This current roster is fun and a bit of fresh air compared to the last 3 or so years but still lacks compared to Cuse rosters that we all grew up with. Nice young upside that has shown up in games (Kadary, Woody). However no way this roster can press no matter who subs in unless Bourama can be that eraser. I just don't believe he can from what I have seen of him prior to this season. If he becomes that guy then what is Marek going to do. He can't be up at mid court trying to trap guards. He becomes useless in the press.

100% Same deal as mixing up some MTM every now and again. As you alluded to, we have a team full of athletes, yet his teams, based upon his absolute stubbornness/unwillingness, can't ever play a wink of it.

Jeremy McNeill was one of the best press goalies we've ever had. He wasn't much at anything else. But when he realized that all he had to do was guard the basket and let the break come to him, he ate it up. Our current guys could do that but they would probably tend to get happy feet and come out to meet the break or go after a three point shooter. But that could be coached out of them.

Except one big thing has changed since the Jeremy McNeil days--how a fast break is run. Now, you're more likely to see a pull-up 3 pointer than a drive to the basket. A rim protector doesn't help in those situations.
