Penn Manor's Matt Keller, the Comets' top-ranked long-snapper, has been invited to the Under Armor All-American Game. (Jeff Reinhart | PennLive)
Penn Manor rising senior center Matt Keller, the top-ranked long-snapper in the country according to Kohl’s Kicking Camps, will play in the prestigious Under Armour All-American Game in January.
Comets coach Todd Mealy confirmed that Keller was told during Kohl’s National Invitational Scholarship Camp this weekend that he was one of two prep long-snappers invited to play in the all-star game in early January.
According to Kohl’s, Keller is a 5-star recruit. He was named a Kohl’s First-Team All-American following Penn Manor’s 2013 season, and he was the No. 1 finisher in Kohl’s 2014 Underclassman Challenge in Tampa back in January.
Keller previously won Kohl’s Eastern Showcase in Pittsburgh in 2013, and the 6-foot, 225-pounder will be one of the top centers and long-snappers to watch around the L-L League, District 3 and the PIAA this coming season.
And when he wraps up his time in a Comets’ uniform, Keller will play in one of the premier, nationwide all-star games in January.

Snapping is not easily teachable, it's very technique driven. I did the long snapping in college, it's very hard. It's quite hard to snap it back there with speed and accuracy. Every tenth of a second counts

If we went for it more on 4th down long snapping wouldn't matter so much.

Guess the walk on kid from MD Hines isn't the answer

I think there is a significant difference between a walk-on and the #1 recruit in the country at a particular position.

If the kid wants to come here, you let him. If he doesn't it's not the end of the world, but you certainly offer the best player at a specialist position in the country a chance to come here.

Some of the older posters will recall an erratic long snapper back in the late 1990s... I believe his name was Michael Bennett. Anyways, every long snap was an adventure, and his miscues on punts and FG attempts repeatedly cost the team (not to mention how it affected the confidence and timing of the kicker). After that season, I will never undervalue a long snapper again.

I could be wrong but I think this kid was at the cuse camp shy went to. They had him in the corner of the field snapping 20 yards for like an hour non stop. Kid never missed. I had asked the coach of they gave offers to the long snappers he said if they had room in the class he would be offering this kid.

ROOM being the key word here. I was just going to mention with this offer, it's time for a 'fishes and loaves' roster analysis. I'm on board with the offer but it seems like a strange one to me.

I don't think we have anything to worry about. We've had de-committments and we've had some roster attrition. We've got room, even though the class seemed like it was almost complete back in August.

If the list of "graduating seniors" from the last home game is gospel, we're losing 27 scholarship players, and we were at only 83 players to begin with.

If Eskridge, Funderburk, George, and Sloan are all moving on, we've got room for 29 newbies. Plus or minus a few.

Since Rodgers is graduating, Keller would only be taking his slot.

i'm not worrying BUT, when you consider the position players we need and want to bring in i do wonder where the room is.

we've had 2 decommitments (grimes/robinson) and we've filled one of those spots; Jan enrollee for Jan enrollee.

Kids off the top of my head who are on the board and are all needs:

S – Jon Crawford
DE – Qaadir Sheppard
ATH – Donovan Hale
WR - Spencer Tears
WR – KJ Williams
TE – Amir Ealey
TE – Alex Parkinson
TE – Najee Clayton
TE – Trey Dunkelberger
OLB – Jordan Fox
OLB – Saleem Brightwell

I also don’t think I’d write off Gerald Robinson yet.

Throw in the new DT Steven Clark. If the coaches like his size (maybe he works out for them) I’d expect an offer. Plus Milan and Annan are still available but it’s unknown how much time we’re investing in them at this point.

Room might open if we have decommitments but lets hope we don’t.

We likely also have kids committed who might not be qualified but again kind of hoping its not the case.

Need to do a complete roster analysis as well as determine how many Jan enrollees can actually be back dated. I'm hoping we can get 27 or 28 kids with the max being back dated.

Id hope that Sloan isn't going anywhere. He's gotten a lot of recent PT and has done well, we'll need him next year and he'll be in the mix to start.

Edouard
Prater
Dawson
Davis

Plus two more I think (I don't have my recruiting cheat sheet in front of me)

We have 21 current commits, plus Edouard, Dawson, and Prater left over.

Maybe Norton won't be back?

how many can be back dated depends on how many enrolled in August. Do you that number off the top of your head?

3 kids enrolled in January 2014 (AJ, Wayne Williams, Corey Cooper)

18 enrolled in August.

Since Naes is now gone, I don't know if they can reissue his scholly for Jan 2015, or if they have to wait until August.

Other that our three holdovers and Davis, how many other potential Jan 2015 enrollees do we have?

Is KJ back in play?

I thought this was a long snapper?

If Naes was in school he counts. I think the back date limit is 7 kids but we can't go over 25 total anyhow so I'm going to assume we could back date 7 kids. (also assuming the prior Jan enrollees were back dated as well.)

I'm going to assume KJ is in play until he's not. Kids that could potentially enroll in January would be:

Dawson, Dunkelberger, KJ, Prater and Alin E.

The high school kids who've said as much are the new kid Davis and Gerald Robinson. If there are others they're escaping me.
