The "Carolina Way"

Any time you deal with the NCAA you should be afraid. But you can bet if the NCAA punishes UNC for the same classes that they let Duke, Michigan, and Auburn get away with...hell will be raised.

Those schools can't touch what UNC did. Nobody can. Like many have said, it is the biggest academic scandal ever in college sports.

There is no sense making any predictions with the NCAA. They are the least rational organization around, IMO. They can literally do whatever they want for whatever reason-or for no reason whatsoever.

Don't be a p...y, throw something out there.

Not true at all. They got busted doing exactly what Carolina did, and no one (including the NCAA) cared, because everyone knows that these schools go after the same athletes. They stay eligible at Duke the same way they stay eligible at UNC.

I'll throw out the punishment that UNC deserves: absolutely nothing. Same punishment that the NCAA gave Duke, Michigan, and Auburn for their "paper class" schemes.

You can keep saying it but it doesn't compare.

It absolutely compares. You think that UNC and Duke somehow recruit the same players with the same SAT scores and that UNC has to cheat to pass them but they magically stay eligible at Duke? Nope...Duke's "whistleblower" blew the lid on their scheme long before UNC became newsworthy.

In involved over 3,000 students and only half of them were athletes. It's a huge academic scandal on its own, even without the athletics angle.

At least you acknowledge UNC cheating... I think you are, anyway.

Right- it was an academic scandal perpetrated by three people within one department. As far as the NCAA is concerned, you have to ask yourself three questions:

1. Were the courses open to all students? (Yes)
2. Did the courses require work? (Yes)
3. Did the athletes do their own work? (Yes).

No harm, no foul.

It isn't cheating. It is gaming the system, but it isn't cheating. I don't think Duke should have been punished, and I don't think UNC should be punished either. That's how this game is played, and everyone knows it. You don't take ballers with SAT scores in the 900 range and put them in colleges with a mean SAT score of 1300-1500 and expect them to be great students. The math just doesn't work.

Oh, hell WILL be raised if UNC skates after what happened to us. You can bank on that. The NCAA just put themselves under more scrutiny with the UNC case by what happened with Syracuse. If they come out looking like they went easy on UNC, the chickens will come home to roost. UNC better hope the SU appeals process is successful before the reopened investigation is over.

Cuse got caught with a basketball admin doing work for his players. Entirely different from UNC's situation. UNC's players did their own work.

The bolded portion is false and is indicative of why UNC might not face any punishment. What people believe about the case is often the opposite about what actually happened. The Wainstein Report made it very clear that no player was ever awarded a grade for not doing any work.

Your provost made it very clear when he apologized for fake classes.

No, "paper class" is the media term. They were technically independent study courses.

Technically they were fake classes.

The classes weren't "fake." Perhaps you should read the Wainstein Report. Were they embarrassing? Absolutely. Were they unethical? Of course? Were they NCAA violations? Not a chance.

100's of fake classes. 100's. 1,000's of students. 1,000's.

One admin. One player. One paper. And yet they dropped the EFFIN HAMMER on us. Why? Lack of Institutional Control. If the UNC scandal isn't a bigger case of a Lack of Institutional Control, I don't know what is.

lol. Why did your administration fire a bunch of people and why did they apologize for fake courses?

They never apologized for fake courses. They apologized for the independent studies courses, for reasons that I already listed above.

Why would it be LOIC for UNC when it was literally nothing for Duke, Michigan, and Auburn?
