I think 8 is the perfect number. If you look at the last 3 weeks of the season VT, Clemson, Houston, and Oklahoma were all in the top 8 and got bounced. In the last 4 weeks the only major changes were Houston, MSU, and Baylor got bounced out of the top 16 so not as much drama.
