I think most close observers of last year's team would agree the 2 biggest problems of last year's team was OL and QB.
Coach gets an A+ on addressing the QB situation. The OL has been the most consistent problem over the last 5 years (along w/ lack of discipline IMO). Does he address the OL, and if so, how?

Oline has been an issue actually for about 12 of the last 15 years at least. Agree the staff did a great job landing a ACC level starting QB. Oline already has one “upgrade “ in house with Bleich.(This assumes healthy and ready to go). I would also offer that if and this is a big if but if Servais is fully healthy going into 2021 game 1, that would also be an upgrade from this prior season. To me Dino and staff must address center. To often Veterello was over powered or was not able to block the rush. His push off the line was not there as well for the run game, though in fairness, neither were our guards. I think you move Veterllo to tackle, start Froumy and/or bring in a new starting caliber center that is better. Lastly we need another DT and a DB. DT more than DB especially if McKinely doesn’t return.

There is a center in the portal from vt. Was at least an 89. Center is a position that you need experience. Cannot just convert someone. That’s why long snappers are a specialty. Snapping the ball and blocking take skill and training.

There are already 18 OL on the roster. Unless the kid is a no kidding sure fire potential draft pick, why bring in another body?

If there is a G5 all conference center that has legit size that wants to transfer up to raise his draft stock, that would be great, but to bring in someone's back up that wants out because he can't get on the field, meh. Have the kids already on the roster fight it out.

There is only one pure need on this roster, and it's a nose tackle.

To me the challenge at center is Vetterello has done it for 2 years and it’s been a weak point and Froumy while a house is still an unknown as he has not played. In fairness to Vet he saw action as a frosh and had not gone through S&C. Centers don’t grow on trees I get it and yeah we have 18 oline in house but if the center of the line is the weak link, then everything falls from there. Illoa (sp?) was a part time center in high school so maybe they give him a shot? Either way center needs to be fixed or we are in the same place with the oline again next year.

Think Vet hits the weight room hard and surprises quite a few next year. With Bleich in the fold, Servais healthy, Bergeron a year stronger and Illoa and the rest from last year we're sitting ok on oline.

DT and NT is THE need, even if Bear comes back. We asked way too many downs from him last season.

What is the A+ solution for the QB situation? Did we just land a transfer?

Agreed, a big NT would be great

when you add help at the guard you also help the center.. less worry about having to help double teams and less worry about things he cant control.

Just went through all the DT's in the transfer portal, and I don't see an obvious SU match. The only decent name that I saw who had had an SU offer, Lamonte McDougle from Washington State by way of West Virginia, has now withdrawn his name from the portal.

Still, people are entering the portal in droves.

Servais has really struggled for 2 years now. I'm not ready to count on him at this point. Would love for him to prove me wrong, though.

OL is unique in that the young guys rarely can contribute for a year or two, so if we in fact have 18, half of those guys are just redshirting and building up strength. If I'm Dino, I leave no stone unturned to try to improve that position and that includes coaching. The OL often lack communication, leaving guys unblocked, and seem to have no clue how to handle a blitz year after year. That has to be at least partially on the coaching.
I agree that NT is also a big need, particularly if Bear doesn't return.

Only the staff knows for sure, but the question is do we really have 18. Will any of the injuries linger, or are any career threatening? Something's going on with Q. White that no one can say, but will he still be here?

Other than maybe Cruz, and I'd rather not, I think you exclude the true freshmen. Given them a year to learn and lift.

So 18 could turn into JB hoops depth in no time. I'd take a rising G5 star, or a P5 backup if that backup is clearly better than what we have (might be backing up a sure fire NFL draft pick and just doesn't want to wait). Especially if said transfer is a center.

A lot depends on Red and Froumy, I think both would've played a decent amount this past year. I'm assuming they'll be good to go for Spring ball but how much lost time can they make up from the start of Spring Ball to the first game next season.

I'd like to see the staff bring in a transfer at Center and move Vet back to Tackle. Then you have a solidified starting group and good depth with Red, Froumy, Vet, and Tisdale

Agree on Red / Froumy -- that's why I'm confident that we'll actually have a solid TWO-deep next year. Tisdale started 3/4 of this season, and he's likely a bench guy next year, along with these two.

The big question for me is: who starts at center? Vet? Servais? Ialoa? Froumy? Some new guy?

Figuring out this is the key to next year's OL, IMO. If Servais doesn't shift inside, then he locks in at RT. Otherwise, RT becomes a need.

I would also like to see us snag a CB / DB type via transfer, to help offset the losses we've suffered there.

I know that we have lots of young talent in the pipeline, many of whom got thrown to the wolves this year and will be better for it down the road. But it wouldn't hurt to bring in a more experienced player to compete.

I think you could make the argument that Cisco, Trill, and Iffy were our three best [or at least most recognizable] players this year. All three leaving at the same time is big. Again, I love the young talent in the pipeline, and what the coaches are doing amassing athletes in the secondary.

Yea, losing these 3 cannot be understated. We more or less played without Cisco and Trill for 3/4 of the season, and I thought the secondary held up relatively well. The big thing for me wasn't so much pass coverage, but run stopping. Hanna, Greenwood etc. are simply too small to come up and help stop the run. That is where we greatly missed Cisco and Trill.

I think we desperately need someone to emerge back there with Garrett Williams. Maybe Nunn? Chestnut is a true frosh, so it's hard to count on him. Hitting the portal may be a good way to bridge that gap for now. It's crazy how big a difference 1 player can make. With Iffy, I feel really good. Without him, I'm nervous.

I wonder if Jones can’t take the strong safety spot, rich in linebackers, and the kid has a nose for the ball. Question is can he play man, he’s a monster in zone coverage

SU has to get another corner or safety. They don't have the talent or depth to make up for the three defensive backs they lost to the NFL draft. What could have been one of the best in the ACC next year, just became very average.

Still think a big stud for Dline is huge priority!

I think the personnel part is 30% of solving our online problems. The rest is fixing the plays where we had someone blocking no one and a free rusher elsewhere. We had definite problems picking up the right people for 2 years now. That’s a coaching issue of some sort. Either change the coach or change the techniques we’re using cause it ain’t working.
