$100 million in NY, county money for Onondaga Lake project, officials say

Glad Buffalo can get $1billion and we can only muster up $30 mil! Like I said this money will be spent somewhere, at least we can get a larger portion for CNY

Has Miner signed off yet?

She needs to appoint a task force first, community activists, ice fisherman, duck hunters who the City has now threatend to arrest and prosecute for hunting and the crew that maintains the sewage discharge pipe.

Don't forget Tony Buffa

I love the amphitheater aspect of this project. Not sure about the water taxis. Where are people going to/from on those things? Unless of course, they take you from the amphitheater to The Retreat in Liverpool. Then I'm all in.

My guess would be so that you could park in other places, like Onondaga Lake Park or the Inner Harbor. Wouldn't really see any use for them besides that.

Anything they do to enhance the quality of life and recreation around Onondaga Lake is money well spent, IMO. And may I add, whoever had the bright idea 100 years ago to keep a road and railroad running right down the eastern side of the lake should be dug up, and horsewhipped. What a waste. It will be hell trying to reclaim that land. Same thing with many areas of the Finger Lakes. Beautifully scenic bodies of water...with miles of road just 20 feet from shore. Dumb a$$es. I recognize that there was a time people had to travel on horseback along the waterways. But once you start building roads, you need to place them away from your most valuable properties.

Not a whole lot of distance between the Lake and the Cliffs of Galeville.

Yeah, the water taxi idea sounds rather pie-in-the-sky, but running them to the Harbor and Liverpool could alleviate some of the traffic and parking crunch west of the lake (especially if some of the existing Fairgrounds lots get developed). Maybe the novelty appeal will keep them going.

Water Taxis? Need to hear more but it sounds like some staffer's idea to fill in the blanks quickly after Minor's Folly.

What I don't like was $2.5M of the Oneida Gaming $$ was to go to the new Dome for 30 years. Now it is going for Water Taxis and an ampitheater?

Why didn't they use some of the money to get ONtrack running again for the short term while looking at a longer term light rail line

Why don't they level the fairgrounds and put the stadium there. Get rid of the amphitheater idea.

Money would have been better spent on a stadium, not water taxi's along scenic Onondaga lake.

I doubt that we will ever see water taxis, but the amphitheater (and completion of the lake loop) combined with a new stadium in the Inner Harbor could really revitalize the city, and give a good reason for a light rail system.

I mean how convenient would it be to stay downtown and take a light rail to a SU game, concert, or Destiny? You're right probably makes too much sense...

The water taxis will be very useful in getting people to and from the new hotel that is going to be built.

Galeville would have had to adapt. Old Liverpool Road should have been the major thoroughfare. The entire area below should have been developed as premium lakefront property.

That hotel -- okay, maybe not necessarily THAT design -- may yet be built after all. BTW, let's all remember it was Miner who decided to renegotiate after that project was in the works...holding it up for years, and dragging it into the recession. Oh, and how are those businesses on the east side of Route 81 doing? Thank God we never built an energy industry industrial complex there. At least we know where to get our 18 wheelers services.

I think the road is great. Atleast the public can enjoy the view on a leisurely drive into Liverpool. It's better than having the uber CNY rich take it over for their own private estates, ala Skaneateles Lake.

The lake was this city's most valuable natural resource. A signature feature for this town. But we let factories and lack of proper planning and development let it become a cesspool and an afterthought. Thankfully, I believe, it will be a beautiful lake again. Some people are working hard to make that a reality, including the Onondagas. It's a shame we let it get so out of control. Could have been beautiful parks a recreation for decades.

don't mock it yet...38 stories, the chatter is picking up. not saying it will happen for sure, but they are discussing it at meetings.

he's not a dumb business man and he's got the land

I think the hotel would be a great addition and I am not a Congel fan by any stretch.
