Is the last time the name "West Virginia" did not appear on our football schedule.

Gonna be weird. Glad the trophy is in its rightful place. Old Ben must be spinning in his grave.

Bittersweet. Going to miss the nutty WVU fans. Not going to miss their female counterparts.

Would not be surprised at some point down the road we see them as an OOC game.

Nope not after Luck's comments, all eastern schools should refuse to play them, especially Pitt.

Piss on WVU. We are on to bigger and better things.

We all said the same thing about BC and....

Oliver Luck has said some stupid and unfortunate things over the past year. I can't judge our rivalry with WVU on Luck, however. I'll miss it. My first WVU Game was at Archbold back in the mid-60s. Attended some great games over the years topped by the 1987 thriller in the Dome. I hope we can schedule the Mountaineers down the road once we've settled into the ACC.

I would guess that DM will try and schedule OOC games against teams that play in our prime recruiting areas. That means Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Georgia and Florida.

I think he would really like to play programs like Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan, UGa and UF. He loves challenging OOC games. It will be interesting to see if he will pursue games against Rutgers, UConn, Temple, USF, UCF and UC. It makes sense from a recruiting perspective but there is that issue when you play teams from a lesser conference...you get no credit when you win as expected and you get a lot of criticism and negativity if you lose. You really can't win in those situations.

My guess is that Syracuse doesn't schedule any BE school after leaving the conference. They will play in the NYC area in the Meadowlands and maybe Yankee Stadium, against marquee schools or Army. They might play MAC schools in home and homes to get more exposure in Ohio and Michigan.

I don't think OOC games against WVU will be in the cards either...it really won't help recruiting much and it would probably be an advantage to SU to help isolate WVU from the East.. If the Mountaineers emerge as a dominant power in the Big 12, that might change.

WVU I think will play teams like: Pitt, MD, Ohio based MAC schools more likely than Cuse. They need some winnable games w/i 3-4 hrs of home to keep the fanbase happy

If Pitt is smart they will never play the couch burners again. Why give them the publicity.

West Virginia's biggest problem now is going to be qualifying for BCS games ...

I have absolutely no desire to schedule a "midwest" school any longer. Maybe we schedule them for a home & home (a-la Penn State), but the WVU rivalry as we know it is dead.

Time to quit living in the past and move on.

its crazy, but id rather have BC & pitt on the sched than them.

Cuse may play them once every blue moon, but if wv plays an ACC team, its pitt.

i think the ACC pro v con total is

1947878632459572 to 1

theyre going byebye the 1.

but, it soon be like when my dad tells me about how he misses seeing the browns, steelers and colts on the Giants schedule every year. i basically give him a blank stare of 'What are you talking about??, get over it'

I think they could do it this year. They're projected by most preseason polls to be in the 10-12 range, they bring back most of an offense that dropped 70 in the Orange Bowl, and their hardest Big 12 game (Oklahoma) is at home.

A lot of posts here are the same things we said about BC (even me). Im pretty sure we'll play them at some point, if only because of the tradition.

The class of the fans mean zero.

There is nothing to gain by SU playing them

Go thru every OOC game the last 10 years and tell me what we have gained for each of them. Plenty of games are played that don't have very tangible benefit. There is no fact in this discussion. Its just my opinion we will play them again some day.

Unlike the other defections, WVU took a flamethrower to their bridge outta town and pissed off alot of people along the way. I'm sure we will play them someday down the road. The same way we eventually played BC again and eventually played Penn State again. But it won't be anytime soon.

Wouldn't surprise me if we don't see the hillbillies for 10 years. In fact, it may do everyone a world of good if we didn't see them for 10+ years or so...

Yeah but this ain't playing Stony Brook or Colgate. This is a team we recruit against, want to be on their level, and that has just switched conferences and NEEDS us more than we need them. They would love to play more games vs east coast teams to help them recruit. Playing them is great for them they would love it. For SU, why help em?

While "never" is a very long time, methinks it'll still be a while before the Orangemen take on WVU.

Remember, the program will be going from 7 conference games to 9. The expectation is that the 3 OOC games will consist of one FBS team, one non-BCS team and one high profile game (ND, PSU, USC, etc.). Could WVU fall into the latter category at some point? Sure. But... there are a lot of other programs out there as well.

Unless there is yet another major shakeup that somehow places SU & WVU in the same conference, the days of an annual battle for the Schwartzwalder Trophy are over.

As much as I love tradition, and traditional opponents, I'm not all that broken up over this one. The rivalry has been so stale since what, 1998? Haven't been both been good in so long, mostly us being the bad one. I do remember it being a circled game so many times in 90s. And there's obviously that whole 1987 thing.

Just seems like it's not that high a price to pay for the move we made. Although I have to say, the WVU fans we've met who have come to the Dome have always been a lot of fun, they add atmosphere to the place. Never been to Morgantown, never really wanted to, so not all broken up about that part either.
