Nixon And Nunzio

UMASS and Temple. I mean I get getting your first HC gig but man are those tough spots to be successful at.
Agreed. My sister became the wife of an excellent running back in high school, her high school sweetheart, who got a full ride to Delaware. He graduated with and began his coaching career as HC at Mountain Lakes HS in NJ – didn’t lose a game there in two years, was hired to become HC at Central Dauphin HS in Harrisburg, PA. He coached at Central Dauphin for six years lost 1 game and the community was ready to run him out of town.

From there, it was on to college coaching at William and Mary and Penn where he was Running backs coach and OC. Jim never had the time to play golf because as any coach will tell you, and I saw this with my own eyes, coaches hardly have time to pee when they are not coaching or recruiting. It is exhausting work, and you never seem to have time for yourself, your wife or kids, let alone golf. You are always coaching or recruiting.

And with regards to Nixon and Campanile I don’t believe they are going anywhere after their first successful season at Syracuse. UMass is not the school for either - they deserve better than that – Temple maybe, but not this coming season no matter what their wives say.

Does Nixon want to jump into a bad spot or stay where his kids are for the next couple of years?
I feel like the plan has got to be to have his kids around for at least a year.

After that, who knows.

An OC in the NFL working under a Head coach who is considered the best offensive coordinator in all of football right now Is a bad spot? Ok
Chicago has to get past Det/GB/Minn just to get any place.

They have struggled for years to make good decisions.

They dont have a QB anyone things has a grasp on the game.

the OC had a bunch of toys at Detroit to build and offense with. It might not be so easy now.

Or if it goes well he’s a step away from being a HC in the NFL making 10x what he’s making now. I think you are severely underestimating Johnson and Williams has a bright future as a qb as well. Nobody thought Goff was any good either when he first got to Detroit. bears have talent and cap space

I think/hope we have the core staff for 2 more years. Next year might be a step back a bit, but seems they're building to a potentially more special 2026 season. And if that happens these guys will be able to go just about anywhere.

Man, Nixon had such a bad season. One of the worst passing offenses I have ever seen. No creativity with the play calling, really all our best players on offense just regressed under him. I think we only had 4 or 5 players with over 500 receiving yards this season? Terrible! I mean did anyone else watch that Pitt game? Why would anyone in the NFL want that as an offensive coordinator. Nixon would be crazy and over his head to leave here for an NFL job. I think we need to spread the word to save Chicago fans the misery

Did an amazing job of putting guys in a position to succeed this year; he worked with what he had and put together an incredible scheme. If he gets the nod, it's certainly deserved

be glad we have coaches that others want...nobody as beating down our door to hire Gilbert, Dino or most of the previous staff.
That’s great we just don’t want to lose him!

Ben Johnson clearly thinks Caleb Williams has a grasp of the game. It's not Caleb's fault Shane Waldron was a terrible OC who was so bad he got fired midseason, Eberflus was a terrible HC who was so bad he got fired midseason, and the Bears' offensive line was terrible. Yes, very tough division, but shore up the offensive line, and the Bears' OC will have plenty of toys (e.g., DJ Moore, Keenan Allen, Rome Odunze, Cole Kmet, Deandre Swift, etc.).

Don’t think anyone would fault him for that. But he does really enjoy coaching his son and is super happy his daughter is playing soccer here. I think the family aspects for Jeff are quite real. At least for now. Fran will push him to take a HC job at some point too.

Agreed, I think he sticks around but I can see the offer to be the OC for Chicago and work under Johnson being intriguing.

Yeah, for better or worse, your last statement rings very true. Fran looks out for everyone's best interests, whether they are his players or his staff. Major respect for our Coach!

Don't forget guys like Gill that came on later in the season. Shows just how little development there was amongst the "better" players that Gill was able to take so many receptions from them late.

Yes very intriguing. And if Caleb Williams has success and the Bears make a couple playoff appearances in the next 3-5 years with Nixon at OC. We’ll be talking about Nixon as a head coach in the NFL somewhere most likely, if he wants that
