1. Baye hasn't really improved at all from last season to this. Our team is light years better with Fab out there. 2. Southerland is a small game player. Even his defense isn't as good against a legit team.

I thought BMK played ok tonight. Fab is a better option but I didnt think he played bad tonight.

I don't know it just seems like he can't go up and snatch a board ... wish he could challenge Fab a little more because Fab's improvement is ridiculous

Baye is a role player. It comes down to expectations. Fab has a significantly higher ceiling but may not be the 4 year contributor that Baye will be. He brings energy and is active around the basket, not a skilled rebounder or scorer yet. In looking at other #2 centers that we've had at Syracuse, he is probably one of our best in recent memory. As for Southerland, I do think he has something to prove against big time teams. Will be great for the team as well as his self confidence when he can have a break out game against a top BE team. I did think his defense looked better tonight. He is not a scrappy type of player like CJ that can help the team in other ways.

To be completely honest, I'd rather have Rakeem out there over Baye ... I really think he's a better player on both ends ... would like to see Jim work him in there more

Well, Baye has scored 14 in a game this year, basically twice what he scored in his best game last season. He also has been a nice complement to Melo. He also had hand surgery in the off-season, which would slow his progress to some degree. I don't know exactly what Baye will be and it's doubtful that he'll be a major offensive factor at any point, but the kid can play and has been fine, IMO. I think people just get greedy and want Fab to be Okafor or something.

Wow - based on what? No defense - no rebounds - he too lost right now and not strong enough just like Fab & Baye last year.

May be truth to that. However, I thought he played OK tonight (still hustled), he just missed his 3s like everyone else tonight. So hard to pick on him only for that. Thought his shots were OK (except for 1st one), just didn't fall. He NEEDS to be out there to get more experience. His 3s in big games will be needed down the line.

He doesn't get a chance ... In the time he's out there, I do think he is a better rebounder than Baye, and I'll stand by that ... and not stronger than Baye?

And Christmas definitely has a higher ceiling than Baye. If Fab returns and with Coleman coming in, I want Xmas getting the same minutes as Baye, in hope that he can become a big time player soon ... It will benefit this team. Look how it helped Fab. Come the St. John's game he was getting better. Experience most definitely helped him and I think it can help Xmas

I too would like to see Rakeem get more minutes (though understand why he shouldn't have tonight), but he doesn't exactly sky for rebounds either. He's probably more offensively adept than Baye, but no better at any other aspect of the game.

Interesting discussion. Why? Because there are some good points regarding Rakeem and Baye. For what its worth, I thought Baye played with a ton of energy and passion - you can't discount what that does for your team mates. He may not have had the stats that Fab had, but he also didn't let FLA take advantage much when he was playing in Fab's place.

As far as Rakeem, I think he's going to end up being a monster. I love his aggressiveness and confidence. He does need more experience but a close game may not be the best time to play him and possibly ruin his confidence if he didn't play well ... and possibly lose a game. I thought FLA played pretty good defense - we settled a LOT for jumpers and that's on their defense. So I'm not sure how Rakeem would have fared against an athletic defense.

Overall, we have the potential and depth to really do something special. Its going to be an amazing season.
