Does any 17 yr old kid today believe this?

Apparently they do.

The kids go to Alabama, Auburn, and Ohio State, even without the nonsense uniforms. They do because those programs win and spend money doing it.

And the kids know about Jim Brown, Ernie Davis, Don McNabb, and Dwight Freeney and the Carrier Dome.

I believe that though some may see Oregon's success as a product of its uniforms, I think its much more than that.

Oregon became a power the old fashioned way - spending gobs of money on infrastructure.

Spending money on practice facilities, study hall facilities, housing, locker rooms and high quality coaches who stay with the program will mean a lot more than the funky uniforms.

That's my opinion.

I want them to make us Oregon of the east. Crome, spikes, wings, boobs, Air Otto logo...whatever.

That is awesome and kids love it.

Exactly. Michigan wants to be Oregon of the last 10 years. Kids think Oregon has always been good.

Again its not about us. I love tradition myself but its about what kids can identify today. They like small, light shoulder pads, with hanging back plates, custom tight stretch jerseys and pants, bright color socks and wristbands and visors. They want to be able to have alternate uniforms too. They dont want big shoulder pads and mesh jerseys, dont want neck rolls or forearm pads. They dont want to look like jim brown, ernie davis or mcNabb, they want to look like the stars of today. I say use throwback uniforms for special games, homecoming or what not.

So long as there is plenty of freakin ORANGE!!!

Speaking of recruits - Clemson, Florida, Miami, Tennessee (is that really orange or puke?), Auburn, Oklahoma State and others seem to have no problems recruiting with Orange colors so stop with the whatever the players want bull. We're the freakin Orange. Otto is a freakin Orange. The BB team has no problem with ORANGE.

To paraphrase Henry Ford - any color so long as its ORANGE.

We need to get the word CUSE included on uni's either on front of jersey or side of pants. Cuse resonates with young people according to my college aged children.

Where is the proof that kids like the combat unis? As noted in this thread, the traditional programs don't go with the gimmicky stuff. Are ours on record somewhere saying that's what they want? Who makes the final call, TGD?

I think putting CUSE on the unis is borderline cheesy. Ala FAMILY

I do however feel like orange or syracuse over the number similar to bball and lax would be cool. See SOONERS

What is the one thing in your post that SU does not have?

Kids go to those schools because they keep being powerhouses and why mess with something not too broken at all.

And clearly Syracuse does not or is not able to invest the dollars to Oregonize things.

What we used to be isn't what we are today...Syracuse can be the modern challenger brand with a heritage is success...and innovation. The first school to have an on-campus Domed arena. The first to do a naming rights deal. One of the first to engage the freeze option to perfection and believe that African-Americans can be dual threat QBs.

Our values and success can be timeless, but our approach to winning needs to change before we have to.

Play with the uniforms. Evolve, improve and modernize but stay true to the VALUES of the program.

My opinion its all about what the PLAYERS and RECRUITS find appealing. Nice looking jerseys to recruits is a plus. In the end as long as they win!
Its all about winning and facilities and coaching relationships. Its not about how fancy the uniforms are. If that was the case Maryland would be the best. Alabama, Penn State and Notre Dame get recruits not because of changing uniforms. The fans buy the jerseys not the players. They better not turn off fans who buy the goods for the misperception that recruits choose colleges based on the team's fashion statement.
I really like the S on orange helmets. It says who we are. I hope they keep it.

We're talking uniforms, helmets and pants, not equipment like shoulder pads, wristbands virsors, neck rolls forearm pads. Most have no problem with modernizing the look but it better be Orange and Blue. I don't care if 18 yr olds want to change our colors to chrome and black. They'll be gone in 4 yrs, I'll still be here for another 25 yrs.

Green - we need more green!!! Be more like Oregon - who's with me!!!!?????!!!!???!!

I just hope that I recognize that it is Syracuse playing football when I turn on the TV.

Respectfully have to correct this.
Much of the later archbold days and into the Dome, or Joe Morris era at least was with white pants. We opened the dome with white pants, blue jerseys, and orange helmets.

That's why I liked the combo this year of orange lid, white jersey, and blue pants a couple games this year.

Thanks. I was only going off something Jake C emailed me back in the day, when I had asked about a blue pants, orange shirt combo...yeah, I used to suck (used to?). Anyway, he said orange pants are what Jim Brown wore, and SU will always wear. So I just assumed we always did. I didn't go all in on this SU football obsession until my freshman year there, 1991. So, while I always thought it was awesome that Joe Morris and Art Monk played here, I have absolutely no childhood memory of it.

The issue is that in our traditional look, the orange is found in the pants and helmet. I love both the Marrone and McNabb era unis - they have plenty of orange, and we definitely stood out as Syracuse and not Clemson or Tennessee or Texas or Florida. But from a merchandising perspective it's a challenge because if you want to wear orange to a game, you have to wear a t-shirt or sweatshirt. The blue and white jerseys, from a distance, could be any number of other teams.

If we go to an orange jersey, once enough fans have bought them, the Dome can finally look full of orange with fans wearing team jerseys. But the players won't look like Syracuse anymore.
