The punter Riley Dixon.

Amba has a chance to get drafted but he was brought in by Dino.

Look at the talent our coaches recruited. The NFL has rejected it.

Dino is going to change this.

I hope Brisly Estime gets a shot somewhere as a FA.

A couple thought on that. First, it is disgraceful. Back in the 90's, we had guys going in the first round almost every year. I hope dino can do it. But right now, that is just talk. But to say the least, he doesn't have a high bar to pass. Any of us could have done that.

Our talent level was below P5 level.

Dino is working on that. He brought in our best player last year. I think his scheme will get our WRs into draftable positions.

Talent is what our program needs. Other teams it has been bad coaching with decent talent. Syracuse football got the shot in the arm it needed with Dino.

He is a season away and I feel our talent will be on par with non football factory ACC schools.

It's crazy I see guys being taken from schools I've never heard of in the first couple rounds and we don't have a single player in any round.

I'm not expecting multiple high draft picks but man is that telling.

Our 2013 and 2014 recruiting classes are cycling thru the NFL draft now.

I do think we have a couple of possible picks from the 2015 recruiting class.

If none of the 2015 players are drafted. The entire Scott Shafer recruiting classes will go without a single NFL draft pick for a player who played their eligibility recruited to Syracuse.

The post Marrone Era really set us back talent wise while joining the ACC.

I'm not sure it started post-Marrone. He didn't light it up recruiting wise either.

Marrone wasn't a great recruiter either but the administration promised him the support he never got. I think Marrone leaving and the ACC money finally got the Ensley Center built.

My point was we needed an upgrade in talent and I think the change to Dino has been shown was needed.

Chris Slayton, possibly Bennett/Franklin.

Maybe Ishmael or Erv if they absolutely kill it.

Anyone else?

He was recruited as a preferred walking I believe ... Earned schollie quickly

Most selections by conference:
SEC: 53
ACC: 43
Pac-12: 36
Big Ten: 35
AAC: 15
Big 12: 14

Syracuse, Virginia, Duke all had 0 picks.

Woof to the Big XII.

It's an embarrassment. Many group of 5 schools are more talented than SU.

Dino's got a system that can produce offensively, I think. Now we need real ACC level players. Jury's still out but hopefully he gets it done.

He didn't have a scholarship for at least his first two years and briefly quit the team before his Redshirt Sophomore year.

Sadly starting to bear out that Grob was a better recruiter than Marrone & Shafer.

What big facilities did Grob have helping him overcome his 1 win debut season?

Marrone didn't recruit well but he game planned and used what he had to the max.

After Marrone left we went cheap and are paying for it now. Shafer couldn't recruit much better than Marrone and was a real down grade as a game planner.

Syracuse football was back to mediocre at the end of 2012.
We white knuckled to 7-6 in 2013 and tires have fallen off and we are back to a step above GRob.

Babers inherited among the top 3 least talented P5 roster in the nation.
He should get patience to build it backup.
This is a 3-4 year rebuild like Colorado.

Babers is the guy to be patient for. He wasn't continuity hire in over his head.

Everyone is focusing on the recruiting capability of the respective coaching staffs. I believe the ability to develop players is just as important. Marrone and staff were the best developer of talent, perhaps that is why some Grob recruits look good. Shafer and staff (perhaps with one or two exceptions) were not developers of talent which accordingly makes Marrone recruits less attractive at the time of the draft.

Unfortunately, it looks like Shafer was not very good at either recruiting or developing. Perhaps the developing part was held back by sub-standard S&C, but I blame that on Shafer too.

The jury is still out with Dino, but I believe recruiting has seen an uptick, and I believe the S&C program along with many of Dino's staff will provide solid development.

Go Orange!

I wouldn't change a word of this post. None of Grob, Doug or Shafer were good recruiters and only one could coach them up. Dino will change things but like you said it is a 3-4 year thing

Bingo

Marrone had plenty of NFL guys: shamarko, nassib, 2 lbs, pugh. All i can think of right now, and if he didn't recruit them all, he certainly developed them, thought he and his assistants were stellar.

As much as i love SS, THIS recruiting void and draft void is on SS, if you look at the recruiting/draft cycle.

Estime was signed by the Jets as a FA. Hope he gets a chance as a kick/punt return specialist.
