2019 Yankees Thread...

Threw 73 pitches today, and since all 5 starters are back we won't need Green/Cortes as an opener for a while. Guessing they keep Tarpley up.

Amazing how well were playing right now. If not for that first game Tampa would be 10 back right now, freeking fluke Darnaud Home Run. Bullpen really starting to put it together, Ottavino and Green looked unhittable last night.

There will be 50 different guys with freshly drawn and printed t-shirts, featuring a bunch of ‘savages in the box’ wearing Yankee gear out on 161st & River tonight.

Here are rest of season PECOTA projections of WARP for some of the starting pitchers that have been mentioned as possible acquisitions.

Bauer 1.4
Ray 1.1
Syndergaard 1.1
Stroman 0.8
Bumgarner 0.6
Wheeler 0.4
Boyd 0.2

Replacement Game: Suzyn Waldman deserves play-by-play opportunity

“Prior to Waldman joining Sterling in 2006, all the voices who worked with Sterling (including Jay Johnstone, Joe Angel, Michael Kay, Charley Steiner) shared the play-by-play duties. When Waldman was hired, Sterling started doing all of the play-by-play. There wasn’t the slightest attempt by management to develop Waldman as a play-by-play voice.”

“FAN accepted kudos for hiring a woman, but the suits didn’t give her equal treatment, which would have meant allowing Waldman to do some innings of play-by-play.”

“Fast forward to today. Sterling has to take two days off for health reasons and FAN/Entercom suits immediately signal for a male play-by-play voice to come out of the bullpen, totally bypassing the woman who sat at Sterling’s side for 13 years.”

The NYDN article doesn't say if Suzyn was asked if she wanted play-by-play duties while John was out and if she declined. The article just assumes she was never approached.

That is true.

I do find it interesting that Waldman wasn't given the occasional play-by-play opportunities that Johnstone (I remember the experimental innings with him at play-by-play, Good God!), Angel, and Kay were given, especially because Waldman had play-by-play experience already on her resume.

Having serious doubts about Paxton as the third starter in the playoffs. Especially if German and/or Tanaka falter in the first two games. Need Severino back healthy in a big way.
