Replacement Game: Suzyn Waldman deserves play-by-play opportunity

“Prior to Waldman joining Sterling in 2006, all the voices who worked with Sterling (including Jay Johnstone, Joe Angel, Michael Kay, Charley Steiner) shared the play-by-play duties. When Waldman was hired, Sterling started doing all of the play-by-play. There wasn’t the slightest attempt by management to develop Waldman as a play-by-play voice.”

“FAN accepted kudos for hiring a woman, but the suits didn’t give her equal treatment, which would have meant allowing Waldman to do some innings of play-by-play.”

“Fast forward to today. Sterling has to take two days off for health reasons and FAN/Entercom suits immediately signal for a male play-by-play voice to come out of the bullpen, totally bypassing the woman who sat at Sterling’s side for 13 years.”
I’d prefer to not move my catcher to Shortstop just because he was the starting catcher and the spot opened.

The daily news is soo bad...

Especially if it’s a day game after a night game.

German will likely have his innings reduced. Severino might not be at the point where he is throwing 100 pitches when the post season arrives. If the Yankees do not make a big acquisition at the deadline, they will not have a clear "Ace" for the postseason.

I would consider doing all "bullpen games" in the postseason. When Severino is back, they will have six starting pitchers (3 righties and 3 lefties). I would pair a righty with a lefty and have them each pitch once through the order (e.g., Severino-Paxton, German-Happ, Tanaka-Sabathia). Have either Cortes or Green pitch the first inning.

For example:

First inning: Green
Second through Sixth innings: Paxton and Severino
Seventh through ninth innings: the big bullpen guys

One downside would be that the team would probably need to keep 13 pitchers on the postseason roster. Another downside would be media/fans losing their minds if one of these starting pitchers gets pulled while dominating or if Cortes gets destroyed in the first inning.

I am positive that the Yankees won't do this, but it would be an interesting strategy for a team without an "Ace."

If this thread devolves into politics, the whole thing will be moved to the OT Forum. Thank you.

Sabathia not on his game at all today. Sanchez with like his 3rd catchers interference this month isnt helping.

Nope.

That and a hitting slump like 2018 isn’t helping either.

Probably could use a few days off, maybe a DH day as well. Let him recharge a bit. Gotta get his bat going again for sure.

German did a nice job recovering in that 2nd inning. A bit surprised Sanchez is catching again, hes struggling mightily with the bat. Love Judge but man he hits into a ton of double plays.

Nice opportunity here for Sanchez with 2 outs and no room on the bags for him...

Boston up 3-2 in the seventh on Tampa. Ray's really starting to fade.
