He does pretty well when the batters don't know what is coming But seriously, nice to see one of the good guys in baseball get that playoff criticism off his back for a night.
Im curious what his postseason numbers would look like if you eliminated:
1) the games they pitched him on 3 days rest...or less
2) the games they brought him out of the bullpen
3) The 2013 Cardinal game where he pitched great for 6 innings, and Mattingly left him in as he gave up hit after hit in the 7th - that’s really the game that started his postseason rep.
If his managers would stop being lazy and insecure and stop treating him like he’s some magic pill, and instead use him the same way you did all season, I think he’d have a much different postseason resume. Because he’s pitched quite a few great games too, and many of his most infamous “bad” moments were from being used weirdly. Not all pitchers are built for that Bumgarner stuff.
