2020 Pre-Spring 2-Deep

I don’t know if thats necessarily positive news considering this core’s made up of 3-4 year system veterans.
Under the premise a team should always be recruiting over their talent I think it's very positive if that ends up being the case. Receiver is different from oline where you want talent to maybe take a year in S&C. If we have 6'3 and 6'5 receivers that are physically ready to go as frosh and they are a talent upgrade, I want them on the field.

Mikel Jones is tiny. Not surprised at all they’re going with Arku to start. Figure Wallace is going to be in that mix as well.

Not surprised by Tisdale. I’ve been pretty consistent that he’ll get the nod if Bleich can’t go. (Over Davis even if healthy).

FS is an interesting spot to watch. We’ve gone small here and moved Clarke. Clarke has been moved to cornerback for 2020 per his roster bio. I wonder if both greenwood/nunn stay there over their careers. Id look for us to target a bigger FS for 2020 class.

Cam Jonas In the mix at SS, I like.

The OGa are a surprise. No Dakota and no Bleich. I hope a expect they will end up there. We know Bleich isn’t going to be listed unless the NCAA makes him eligible immediately but why in the world isn’t Dakota listed? Maybe he missed some mandatory workouts or something?

if this initial two deep holds up, this would be our biggest team in defense in a long time. Might be our biggest ever. It would surely be our tallest defense ever.

Big linebackers are more valued in the 3-3-5 because they are more flexible, and can fill in on the DL when the defense make last second switches. We are fortunate we have a bunch of fast, athletic and tall players who were recruited to play DE who will fill in well at OLB.

We also went big at DE with Black and big at CB with Trill. I think Ward in general valued speed over size. Looks like White might value size a bit more.

Looks like even our WRs are going to be bigger, and it was interesting to see Jarveon listed ahead of Jordan at RB.

Should be very Interesting to see how the team develops, especially on defense.
I agree with everything you said, except I am not sure that Ward prioritized any type of athleticism (size, speed etc). Rather it seemed he always prioritized those who he perceived understood his mentally demanding scheme the best. (Frankly I thought Lynch had a similar tendency)

I am not going to call out any specific players because I hate doing that, but I am sure we can all see where we had smaller (sometimes slower) players playing in front of guys who had reputations as athletically superior.

Yep, Ward definitely emphasized the mental aspect first because he mostly ran a "read and react" style defense.

I can't wait to see what White's signature style will be. Hopefully, it is far more aggressive than what we've seen from Ward.

Didn’t Howard play around 225 as a true freshman? 214 now, he was must be one big brick of muscle.

It’s great when we get news about football and really excited for spring ball to start but I am not putting to much stock in this two deep. Every year either spring or camp there are surprises and then you really do not see them on the field. It seems HCDB puts out a two deep because either it’s required or for the fans. However I feel confident that when the season starts the best players will be on the field.

thank u

Elmore is back on just offense again, there was some speculation he would start 2020 on d line as a reserve. J Jordan is largely absent from the roster, I guess they will move him around to create mismatches? Love the size on defense, we couldn’t be much slower to close gaps than we were last year & I was worried the 335 meant a smaller defense.

PWO LB at back up C
We need to find some depth this recruiting cycle, yikes

hes 308. If he can snap and hold his block does it matter?
Can he?
We don't know, was just making observation lol. How many other P5 schools are rolling out a PWO LB at backup C.
Plus its spring I'm sure the two-deep will change 50 times before game one.

I think it's more common for walk on lineman to play.

i've personally never heard of this kid. he went from a LB to 308 pounds ?

Austin Chandler is in there to but Ive heard Chandler is pretty good.

In case people missed it. Devon Clarke's bio says he's been switched to cornerback for the 2020 season.

I agree you see more walk-on OL
I was just surprised to see a kid that was a 2019 LB PWO get up to 308 pounds. That 250 coming out of high school, I'm impressed.

I’m confused, on the roster last year it says that kid was a 275 lb OL as a freshman. Where does it say he was a LB?

Rutgers center a 3 year starter is in the portal as a grad transfer . He was Tommy’s center at Don Bosco . He would be a great get
Unless he's a Grad Transfer he'll have to sit a year.

Edit: I see he will be a Grad Transfer and that he has been in the portal since January.

He is a grad transfer. I expect Carlos to have a big year, but this guy is intriguing, especially given his experience with TD, his obvious smarts and his three years as a college starter.

I heard vandy is the favorite because his position coach at rutgers went there.
