2021 Fall Camp Starts Friday August 6th

Seems like quick tosses like that are what you should be looking for when your line is struggling. But we love those go routes down the sideline that automatically limit the probability of a catch simply due to spacing/sidelines.

I want to see a heck of a lot more screen passes this year too. Not the wideout screen that we throw 25 yards horizontally to gain 4. Actual screen passes. Ironically one of the things that ED did struggle with.
The offense is predicated on spreading the field both wide and deep. That opens up the slants and pop passes to TE. If you don’t have that threat deep, the secondary sits in tight and everyone is in close limiting everything.

But honestly the OL was so bad nothing was going to work.

I've got absolutely no disagreement with needing deep threats. We've completed our share over the last 5 years to Etta-Tawo, Ishmael, Custis, Jackson, Harris, and a lesser extent Riley, Johnson. But there are absolutely times when we draw up those throws now that just do not make since given the down/distance and the probability of success.

Yeah, I agree. I think some of that is on Tommy not making the right read.

All the grading for oline play makes you wonder what ours has really played at the last 4-5 yrs.. last year felt like D to occasional C+. if we could just get to C with some B level play thats a huge increase in plays that work. We dont need Alabama level oline play but just eliminate the mental mistakes more often and get beat by the other team instead of just handing them plays. Even if they cant blow open holes lets hope they can maintain blocks more often so plays can develop better

If the safeties think they have to cheat to stop the run, I would think that makes the deep threat easier.

Hasn't been a problem for defenses the past two years.

Don't know where this fits, but I'm really excited to see Harris in the slot. He needs touches, plus he's great at YAC. If one of the freshman receivers breaks out and the OL is serviceable and the running game is decent, could be...
We'll see.
The pieces to the puzzle are mostly there.

just have a yr where we dont drop the deep throws that actually get thrown well. Drop fewer TD passes that hit both hands.. Thats probably 5+ more scores and bumps us up close to 3 pts a game.

Or just get hit on their helmets. UNC game stands out.

Only Dakota Davis earned a passing PFF (run block) grade, last year. Getting to an average grade would do wonders.

Frustrating seeing a couple oline Holds in the few clips we've seen. THAT is something that should be easily rectified.

I understand and agree this has nothing to do with hiding information from opponents. But this is a terrible way to promote the program to fans and or recruits.

We could be using Newhouse as a resource to promote the program. How hard would it be to post a video profile of a few players every day? What harm would it do to help fans learn something about the players who make up the team they support?

Start with a 10 second video of the layer in action using current clips form practice.

Provide a profile of the player;

Name
Hometown
Position
Year in the program

Then a couple silly questions;

Favorite place to eat in Syracuse?
favorite thing about SU?
Major?

Simple stuff that would help fans know a little (very little) something about the player they are rooting for.

There are so many ways to promote the program. Radio silence like this is foolish.
Didn’t we blast the time wasted making La Familia because we then went out and only won five games?

You can market and sell an ok restaurant or product. It starts with creating excitement and interest. The winning is up to the coaching staff but that doesn’t mean you can’t sell season passes, clothing, etc. A bad product can survive for some length of time by being marketed. Not promoting/marketing practices before the season starts is lazy. Winning helps but you can start excitement from zero after winning or have excitement already built up prior to winning. Not doing the basics that most other programs do is lazy. Don’t complain about fans if you can’t market the product. If winning is the formula, then definitely don’t complain about fan participation if you’re the coach.
It’s the emperor’s new clothes, or the royal nonesuch. No restaurant succeeds if the food isn’t edible. Marketing bad food will only get you one time customers who will be harder to win back if the food does improve. Fool me once…

That is the real problem we face. We’ve promoted ourselves into a hole for the past fifteen years.

I might also add that La Familia was really, really well done. Got people amped for the season. Was the access everyone wanted. And the team responded with a dud of a season.

Not saying the two are related in any way, but the head coach can certainly make those connections if he wants to. I also don’t think La Familia had much to do with the Clemson sellout that season.

The Oline has not been stellar for a while. ED masked a lot of their issues with his legs. Cannot act like we were putting lineman from the 2016. 2017 and 2018 in the nfl through the draft.
With TD teams do not have to account for his legs.
With average protection and run game, they’ll have to account for his arm

Even if TD is able to get the ball out quicker still need to see that he will not focus on one primary receiver and go through his progression.

Weirdly the throws over the middle to the slot and to the TEs dried up at the same time our OL took a noticeable and obvious plummet

I'll give you the slot/Riley; but I think that was more than the Oline. In 18, we had 20 Rec to the TE. In 2019, 31 Rec. More.

To some extent, I've always felt the TE was a struggling QBs best friend. Our TE usage was maddening to me, last year. Our most talented offensive skill position. I wouldn't be surprised if one of our TEs left because of it.

If we were winning a lot and not using our TE no one would care. I’m fine with downgrading the position if other stuff was working.

We’ll see

Can I interrupt and ask this question:
Where can I find the camp schedule? I don't see one posted on the forum.

And secondly, what is the schedule for media access and Babers' availability? Is there a one-stop-shop where I can find answers to these questions?

Is this only pay side info?

Inquiring minds want to know
