2021 Fall Camp Starts Friday August 6th

Agree center is the biggest concern on the Oline. Vet to me does not get the push up front they need. Probably reason they brought in Sheer. I do not see him making an immediate push because of his late addition. Fromney, ulloa or bleech would be a good fit but moving bleech weakens us at right guard.
Not sold this is Tommy’s team. The concern is his only pass was to Harris. I’ve always felt he focus on one receiver and does not go through his progressions. People will argue he had no time but he did the same thing with Jackson. Through into double coverage while Harris was wide open. Reason Harris was jumping up and down and made that season. Harris is our number 1 and will face double coverage. He will make a number of plays but does not mean he is the best option on every throw. TD talks about getting the ball out faster but if that means always going with your first read it will not work.
The thing I liked about Sharder is it appears he went through his progressions. Let’s be honest you know the staff did not call two passes to the tight ends out of four possessions. He clearly went through his progressions and hit the open receiver. He also stayed in the pocket and made the throw instead of always running when his first option was covered.
D to me is going to be a real strength. DBs may be young in age but a lot got significant playing time last year.
WR will be interesting to see who steps up. I really feel samuels will raise the play of the entire group.
If his first read is open or you have confidence in the WR, that’s where he should go, full stop. Not sure you can tell from those clips *anything* about the routes/reads beyond he made the throw and it was caught.

Lots of time to get grumpy in a game thread lol

That bolded part is exactly how I have felt about Tommy. Trishton put up solid numbers that year, which is great, but Taj was open a ton for potential big plays if Tommy isn’t locked on one dude.

Here's the weekly camp notebook from SUAD.

No specifics about yesterday's scrimmage, other than it was 131 plays and mostly game conditions.

yea I read that. That’s why I wondered if there was video I missed because Tommy throwing just 1 pass in a 130 play scrimmage seemed off.

Good observations.

Some general thoughts….

Looking at the highlights so far, it looks like Tucker, Howard and Lutz are all playing at a high level at RB. They look really good. Add in Hough and the RB room looks really solid this season

Looks like they are taking pains to not show the starters on the OL. I am not sure they have been decided yet. Bergeron is going to be the LT, After that, I am not sure. I would have written Dakota Davis in as one of the starters at OG as well if he was healthyit sounds like he is going to be fine by the start of the season. I am 95% sure Servais is going to play at RT.

Saw Ilaoa working with the 3rd OL at C in Bailey’s videos. Bleich is apparently getting at least some work at center. I think Froumy, Ilaoa and Vetterello are all also in the mix at center. I am guessing the staff identified the center position as the biggest issue on the OL during the spring and is still trying to determine what player is the best fit for that key position. Hoping for Bleich or Froumy. Really want a big, really strong guy in the middle that will not get pushed around.

It looks like a lot of guys are in the mix for PT at WR. Harris, Queeley and Jackson are surely going to get a ton of looks. Williams might be our 4th WR right now. Alford, Jones and maybe Gadsden II appear to be fighting it out for roles. The battle for playing time among all these guys is really interesting to me.

Is Pena returning punts? Is Williams going to be the punter?

Sure looks like this is Tommy’s team. Wish I was seeing more passes directed to our TEs.

On defense, things look a lot more defined. We know who is going to play on the DL. Jones, Thompson, Cantin-Arcu and Wax appear to be pretty locked in to play the LB positions.

In the secondary, unless we have injuries, it looks like Williams and Chestnut are locked in as the starters at CB. Carter is going to start at one of the safety positions. Sure looks like Simmons is going to start at another safety position. The other spot looks like a place where there is a lot of competition. Greenwood, Hanna, Cole, LaBrosse, Barron, Coley…lots of players appear to be in the mix. I think LaBrosse has the highest ceiling and for now anyway, my money is on him winning a starting role.

I think if/when Nunn gets the okay to fully participate, he will probably get some PT at CB. I bet the staff would like to split a starting role at CB with Neil and Chestnut to start the season.
I think your observations are right on. I did see IIaoa at left guard in one of the clips. That confirms that they are looking at multiple people at the center and guard positions. I still think Davis sticks at right guard but who knows. Simmons is playing. Im predicting at FS. I think Labrosse and Hanna will battle it out for Rover. As far as the TE's. I know Luke is bang up but Mang is getting a lot of action. Remember their were reports from the spring that he's standing out.

is there video I am missing of the full scrimmage? How do we know Tommy only threw 1 pass?
The comment was that this is TDs team. This was based on him working with the ones throwing one pass to Harris on the video provided. My comment was based on that small sample but pointing out that of all the wr on the field during that time the only pass was to Harris.
Now maybe he has taken a mass mental step forward in the last 9 months and can now scan the field and go through his progressions before making the current read. Not always going with the play called or to the same receiver.
If so awesome. It will only help the team to be successful and we will have quality depth. However I am not sure it’s going to happen. Hopefully TD makes me eat crow and his supports are correct.

My man is just set on not seeing TD play. lol
Not true. If he is the best player and can move the ball and score TD he should play.
However I have not seen the necessary improvement since his first two games to “have belief without evidence”. I am not related to any of the players. I do not have a dog in the fight. The only thing I care about is wins. So far TD has not shown he can deliver since he has been the starter.
If he can do it this year awesome. If not then it does matter to me which qb or for that fact any player plays as long as we WIN.

I give Devito three games before he becomes an assistant coach...I bleed Orange and hope I'm wrong but Tommy just strikes me as outstanding until the lights come on.
Does not matter who wins the qb job out of camp unless they can move the ball and score TD they will not get three games.
This staff is playing for their jobs. They are not going to wait to pull the trigger on any position player that is not helping them win.

I have been just as critcal of TD but I am also fair. I mention the bad but also the good. Although he contributed to ineptness of the offense he also had a horrible line in front of him.

I said it before, it is not easy to come in and beat out a 4 year player/ 2 years starter. That happens with teams that have scrubs at QB or a guys coming back with no experience. Tommy is not a scrub and he is going to compete. He is not gonna just let Shrader come in and take his positon without fighting. It seems like you assume Shrader is getting better while Tommy is staying the same. You dont think its possible Tommy could be making it difficult for Shrader to close the gap? Of course you havent seen the improvements. We are not in the practice fields and meetings and we havent seen him in game action yet. Forming opinions from small clips makes no sense. Its not hard to believe Tommy is better at this point. Shrader will eventually catch up. I like Shrader's skill set and think he gives us potential to be a more dangerous team but it might take some time. Shrader doesn’t know some of the intricacies of the offense like Tommy does. We cant ignore that. He will in time. Its fair game after that. Staff knows who gives them the best chance to win. Their jobs are at stake.

I do not doubt TD knows the intricacies of the offense better than Sharder. It’s whether he can execute those intricacies.
He may have worked on a quicker release. Now if that means just throwing to his first option quicker or scanning the field quickly and getting the ball out quickly to the best option to really move the chains time will tell.
I do think Sharder gives us a better chance with the limitations this team has shown over the last 6 years.
I like others continued the believe that TD would have improved various aspects of his game since he began. Just have not seen it yet.
I do agree the staff will play who ever gives them the best chance to win and will continue to make changes if their initial assessment is incorrect.
I do think TD starts but unlike others I do not think the staff will hesitate until the third game to make a change if TD is unable to move the offense.

Please don’t call him Sharder

that’s when you fart and crap comes out, per my 12 year old

Well of course the staff will go in another direction if TD is not playing well. One of the reasons for picking up Shrader but lets hope there isnt a change. It will mean we are winning games. First 4 games are crucial. Im going assume Shrader will get packages. Between the both of them it might be the best path to going 4-0. You keep saying you havent seen it yet with TD. Im trying to figure out what opportunities did you have to see what he has or hasnt improved on? Of course you havent seen it yet. These small clips from practice tells us nothing. We wont see him until the Ohio game.
