I agree, unless it is a case of "the other guy doesn't have a complete handle on the offense yet but we expect him to in another month." Or "one guy is currently ahead so he will start but we expect him to flame out after a few games so we'll then turn to the future."
The latter is good because if we hit the wall right out of the gate and then start building for next year, then this year doesn't count. Right now, the only other thing we could point to to explain a bad season is the delta variant or if we got lucky, some inopportune injuries. Those are kind of weak so the "building for the future" thing would help to take the heat off in some minds. Again, this only comes into play if we suck in the OOC segment of the schedule but it never hurts to have your ducks in a row if there's even a chance you might have to face the music.
