2021 MLB Season

Mets are hanging around only because of pitching right now.. The Lindor contract, almost no way its a good deal in yr one no matter how well he plays this season he has dug such a hole.. lots of yrs to come back though. but more likely he is a solid .275 hitter than top 10 player..

When you do double digit (in years) length of contracts then the decline to below replacement-level will likely cover more than two to three years. The other thing is expectations. Since Machado left Baltimore he's basically been a 20 HR/.800 OPS guy. To me that doesn't cut it for what he's getting paid. You get paid that kind of money then you should be a top five MVP guy year in and year out. The Bryce Harper deal was another dumb contract.
Machado had a down 2019, with a 3.1 WAR. In 2020 he had a 149 wRC+, which would have resulted in probably 6-7 WAR over a full-season. That might not be MVP level, but it’s excellent and he is still only 28.

Harper is a minimum 3 WAR player with potential for much better. Last year would have been close to 5 WAR in a full-season. He is also only 28.

Whether these are good or bad deals is in the eye of the beholder.

He is a 5+ WAR guy and only 27.

And to be proven over a rather long period of time.

Come on, man. Just power through it and don't let your team down like this.

Angels were coming to the Bronx in late June.

Some people won't get their money's worth.

Mariners no hit for second time this year. Here's a list of teams with that distinction.

Rather than expecting the pitcher make better pitches, let's blame the hitter.
This has never made any sense at all.

And that rummy La Russa completely sells out his own player in support of outdated rules that the shrinking fan base doesn't support.

Throw better pitches, you hump.

Eh. I’m on LaRussa’s side. They were calling off the dogs. The player ignored the sign.

That’s like calling to take a knee, and instead the QB runs a play and punches it in the end zone again.

76 year old manager calls his own player 'clueless' to the press and was cool with another team's pitcher throwing at his guy.

Didn’t see the second part of that, but still think the player should respect the take sign if that’s what the coach wants.

i don’t really see the “struggling for fans” narrative in this one. The game was 15-4 or something. Fans had surely mostly tuned out by that point. Players hitting bombs and doing little shimmies in garbage time is not making or breaking the fanbase.

"I don't have a problem with how the Twins handled it," in regards to Duffey throwing at Yermin Mercedes.

My 'shrinking fan base' comment wasn't about a single game.

I’m not. Baseball loses fans bc these dumb unwritten things. I didn’t know about the sign though. That is a bit different but overall still.. give me a break.

A lot of the “unwritten rules” I agree, they’re obnoxious and unnecessary.

I really don’t see this as an example of that though. Calling off the dogs and not running up the score at the end is not unique to baseball, and it has zero effect on the fans IMO.

Did he hit it off a position player? That's a little low rent if so.
Yes, he hit it off of Willians Astudillo.
