I would have picked Patrick Reed over Scott Scheffler.

I don't disagree with you from a talent view point but he is so disliked I think captain was probably listening to other team members as well. Already enough BS to contend with between Koepka and DeChambeau. Although he could have put DeCham and reid together and that would have probably been OK. I fully expect the Americans to lose although are now the heavy favorite because of the 8/10 top players in the world. This event has lost some luster past few years not the characters or names there once was but I do think it definitely means much more to the Europeans than the US regardless of what is stated publicly.

I have a long post on the PGA thread on this topic. I would have went with Reed as well, but his team play greatness hasn't really been a thing since 2017:
1) 2018 RC - He was a distraction in 2018, although it was not really his fault. It was because you had guys like Thomas/Speith that did not want to play with him. But like it or not, he impacted team dynamics.
2) 2019 PC - His rules infraction the week before the PCup was a distraction.

Add in BK+BD this year, and I think team Dynamics and avoiding drama did him in -- rightly or wrongly.

Yeah there was much more that went into it than pure X's and O's so to speak. Nobody wants him around and they definitely don't want to play with him. and from all reports Stricker is a pretty easy going mild mannered guy and well liked by everyone on the tour over the years. Kind of the anti Reed. I bet it was a pretty easy decision for Stricker because that type of stuff probably isn't what he wants to be around. As you indicated the BK/BC nonsense is probably more than enough already. He wants guys to show up and do their job as golf professionals

In addition he has 8 of the top 10 guys in the world on the team at this point. That's who he needs to play well. In theory it should be enough especially in team play

I have very little hope that the US will win this thing. Regardless of individual talent, we just don't seem to get or care about the concept of team play as well as Europe.

Talking heads feel Europe will win but the casinos have installed the Americans as favorites. A nice $100 bet on Europe to win 14.5 to 13.5 will get you a tidy $1300.

They have Europe winning at +200. (or had it there some weeks back when I put a few bucks down on them)

Yes it still is. A 14 to 14 tie could get you +1200. That's an interesting bet.

traitor

As a Canadian, I'm neutral on this event.
Tend to cheer for Europe because they are typically the dogs, they are more likeable, and if they win (which they often do) it causes some chaos.

Why the hell did the PGA of America choose Whistling Straits of all places? I know that they’re in love with the place and it is one of the best courses in America, but playing a links course in Wisconsin in late September seems to play into the European’s hands. Why not a traditional parkland course that all of the US players grow up playing? And maybe a warmer weather place. The last 3 out of 4 have been in the upper midwest.

I will say Bethpage black will be a great venue in ‘25 and the New York crowd will be raucous.

Go back to the Country club in Brookline. They won there.

Most of the players on the US and European team play the same courses throughout the year. Not many Europeans are playing more links golf throughout the year. Apparently Whistling Straits doesn't play as linksy according to some (although I struggle to explain why) .I don't see that big of an advantage.

Just look at Recent British Open and the US is not really at a disadvantage. They tend to do well.
I counted 17 Americans in the top 10 at the last 3 British Open.
It's about the same split as US Open the last 3 years.
