I honestly think they would have to throw someone in to the trade like they did with The Adam O trade to the Sox. If you were another team, one that doesn't burn money, would you trade for him right now? I wouldn't. No team in contention would. They would ask, why would the Yankees who are still very much in a playoff hunt, trade him? I just don't think anyone would trade for him, certainly no bad team, and I don't think the yanks would give up anything with him to make that work. Better to try and fix him.
It would only be a contender who finds themselves in a pinch. Yankees are 8.5 games back, that’s why they’d trade him. And there’s so many examples of players who fix mental issues after leaving the Bronx, I don’t think that would be anyone’s concern.
Really just depends if a contender thinks he can get them over the top. $16M is steep for a closer but it’s only one more year, it’s the worst amount in the world.
When people say trade Stanton, that’s when I really laugh. Sure, just $189M and 6 more years for a DH, the suitors are just lining up!
