2021 Yankees Season

Sánchez: 114 wRC+ and 1.3 WAR

That’s almost identical to Mancini: 117 wRC+ and 1.2 WAR

Mountcastle is worse than that.

You don’t know what you’re watching.

Why not put all the players numbers I mentioned. Tell us how good Torres is

You singled out Sanchez as being the biggest disappointment.
Ok fair enough, but Sanchez is a huge liability behind the plate. If the Yankees weren’t stuck with Stanton at DH then maybe he would be a option.

He actually isn’t. In all but one season his defense (including pitch framing) has positively impacted his WAR.
WAR is a good tool, but my eyes tell me Sanchez has let ball after ball get by him in crucial situations. He was so bad he lost his job to a career minor leaguer in Higgy. Had Higgy been able to bat .250 he might still be your everyday catcher.

Higgy is a particularly excellent defensive catcher and Sànchez was a disaster offensively for the first month of the season.
Advanced stats are great because our perceptions (including mine) are extremely flawed.

There is a reason catchers don’t hit 40 home runs and the Yankees are in a bad situation with both Stanton and Sanchez on the roster. I just don’t see Sanchez being the type of hitter he was if you continue to use him as a everyday catcher.

He was briefly splitting time with a late blooming career minor leaguer and then hit his way back to command of the starting position. There's a reason Higgy toiled in the minors for years, and he would have been exposed had he been asked to catch 120 or 130 games this year.

If people are fired for the COVID outbreak to teach a lesson, there won't be anyone left to learn it.

I don’t disagree that Higgy is not the answer. Im just not convinced Sanchez can be a everyday catcher and put up big numbers.Gary as a DH on a good team would mash.

If Sanchez could catch about 100 games and DH for another 40 or 50 games, that would be ideal for him at this point in his career. That's not happening though, given how this team is constructed.

The list of catchers who have hit 30 home runs, which Sanchez has done a few times already and may do again this season, is pretty short.
Of course it is. That’s my point, Gary is not starting because of his defense and how long can you put up with these historically low batting averages ?

Batting average isn't the defining metric for hitters anymore.

Prior to this year Gary was absolutely scary behind the dish. This year it appears to me that he has improved quite a bit and is no longer a liability behind the plate. jmo

Lol mmhmm

Ppl get an airborne virus and someone should be fired. Seems logical.

He’s gotten better, that is true. I’d describe it as less of a liability rather than no liability tho.

And xander not in the starting line up for the Sox. He must need a rest. After all they have played one game since the break.

That lineup looks like it could seriously cause Sox fans to be arrogant but I will just be happy winning one of 3 games in NY this series.

You are almost as insufferable as Lou Holtz with this crap
