We aren’t afraid to over recruit starters either.

In 2021 Jason Simmons came in and took time away from Ben Labrosse who eventually transferred out. We also recruited a kid named Shrader who eventually beat out the previous starting QB. What was his name?

In 2022 Cinco Clark came in and has started several games ahead of guys like J. Simmons and Eric Coley.

In 2022 the intent was to recruit a DL who could start. It didn’t work out, but the effort was there.

The coaches are not bringing in transfers so they can sit on the bench.

I’m confident the same will be done this year. They will look for guys who can help improve the teams chances of winning and you don’t do that from the bench.

Let’s see what Shrader does. Does he stay, go to the NFL or transfer as a grad transfer? If he leaves will the coaches go after Armstrong or another QB from the portal? Word is our OC and QB coach might be familiar with this Armstrong kid.

The portal is going to blow up in a few days when players who aren’t grad transfers can put their names out there. I suspect there will be a few more from Syracuse added to the list.

Christian Vellieux of Penn State recently announced he is escaping State College.

We offered him early and he fits the portal profile, as he is from Canada. But I don't think we need QBs right now. If we lose one, he might step right in though.

Fellow Canadian Malick Magia, a WR, was listed on a PSU fan boy web site recently as a player likely to hit the portal. He is someone I would think we would be really interested in. We recruited him hard as well out of HS.
