Think the plan here for Atlanta is to just rip the band-aid off. Eat all of this dead cap this year and be over with it. Bring in Mariota with the $8m cap savings to reunite with Arthur Smith and just keep things at least somewhat respectable.

Can now take Willis at 8 and let him sit for most of the year since he needs it and not let him get destroyed and set him back. Better idea they sign Mariota, draft the best offensive player on the board at 8, go 4-13 and be ready to attack a better QB draft with a lot of cap space and better infrastructure to drop a rookie into.

I kinda wonder if they trade up from 8 to make sure they get their guy. Though there’s been a lot of buzz that the guy they want is Desmond Ridder and he almost certainly will not go that high.

Mariotta to Falcons. 2 year contract, don't know specs yet.

You may be right but it seems insane to me that one of these QBs in this year's draft would go that high. That said, it happens every year where a team or teams reach up in search of that desperately needed QB. But when you miss it really hurts. None of these guys seem worthy of that high a pick, particularly Ridder.

FWIW, one of my favorite draft film guys out there says that in his opinion, Malik Willis is a better prospect than Trey Lance was last year and better than Bryce Young in next years class. He thinks Detroit should take Willis #2.

Now that would be a nutty thing to see happen. They should probably just sit where they are and grab the best difference maker they can get. That roster is soooo bad that a QB is likely to be set back going through the beatings and loses they're going to experience there.

A lot of it is a crapshoot and depends on what year your looking for a QB. Some years there are what appears to be multiple options ie 2018 draft with Allen, Mayfield, Jackson, Darnold etc and others years its slim pickings. Buffalo before Allen tried to rebuild I believe it was Marrone's first year in 2013 and were finally going to go 1st round for a QB. Of course the QB's that year were god awful. We traded back and took EJ Manuel from FSU who I think was the first QB off the board and the next one taken Was Geno Smith in rd 2. Just a terrible year to try and draft a QB.

You can play that on a ten year loop. Jerry must be in a really good coma every March.

Atlanta takea a huge dead money hit next year and can suck.
Problem is they shouldn’t have taken Pitts last year in a rebuild.

Ryan isn’t elite anymore.
Commanders overpaid for Wentz though.

They could have gotten Mayfield or Ryan if they waited.
I don’t think at this point Ryan is much worse than Wilson.. 1 cost a 3rd.. one cost 2 firsts and 2 seconds.. there is no way they’re that different in future performance

This could set off a trading frenzy as teams leap frog attempting to get Willis

I don't think Ryan is very good anymore but the Colts are set up so perfectly for him that he should be fine. I think Wilson has more left in the tank but probably a more difficult transition for him to Denver/he has to get healthy because he just didn't look right when he returned last season.

baker must really be thought of as a guy with a ton of baggage because nobody seems to want him despite teams going with clearly inferior QBs.

I don’t think baker is great , but just a year prior to this.. he was good .. last year he had a ton of injuries .. so it must be non-talent related stuff that is making teams stay away ..

Think the main issue is that he's not an elevator of the talent around him. He's more or less Jimmy G and can keep the boat afloat if good players are around him. Don't think any of the remaining QB needy teams are looking for that sort of thing given their talent isn't all that great, at least I believe that to be the case in Detroit, Atlanta and Carolina as currently constructed. Seattle may be the most logical landing spot for him.

In terms of teams that are probably interested in upgrading, you have:
  • Seattle
  • Atlanta
  • Carolina
That's really it at this point and Seattle/Atlanta (and maybe all 3) are probably more interested in a rookie.

Well this is beautiful news for Bills fans even if he's going to end up in the AFC East.
Seems to me they’d make sure to trade him somewhere that won’t come back to haunt them

GB doesn't like to spend big $$ but they should be all over this, ditto the Pats even though as a Bills fan id prefer he not be in the AFC East

Seems like Jets and the Phins are the only teams in serious consideration so I don't think they have much of a choice (assuming they go through with trading him). I suspect the Jets will offer more, both to the Chiefs and to Hill so I would guess that's where he ends up.

Miami is a much scarier option, but even then, it knocks KC down a peg and lifts Miami up into serious Wild Card consideration. That's still a net positive outcome for the Bills.

What would the jets need him for ? Go 6-11 instead of 4-13? And blow draft capital while at it ?

Jets are idiots in general and have plenty of assets to burn, so makes sense to me.

But the team would be interested because they have a desperate need for receiving help and need to figure out what they have in Wilson.
