2022 Portal

I'd say yeah, except it feels like the Ballard commit is imminent and then the frontcourt is set

Imminent?

Like UMass to the B1G imminent? :p

Nothing against Ballard, but if it’s him or Akok, then…

LETS GO

oh I agree I'd take Akok over Ballard but JB isn't going to pull Ballard's offer and he's not going to take both

So, I know the answer will be different for every team, but with regards to the portal where do you all think the priority lies for any coaching staff? Re-recruit your own kids, or pound the portal to replace the kids who will leave anyway?

Unless you are a one and done program, I think the best case scenario is what you saw in the Final 4 this year. Top-Middle recruits that stay and extra year or two combined with the top portal guys you can get. To answer the question though, the top priority would be getting those top-middle Freshman/Sophomore to stay, imo.

It’s funny that Duke has interest and they aren’t worried about how all their five recruits feel about it. It‘s about putting the best roster together to win. Someone needs to send that message to JB.

This kid is a PG. With all of dukes commits, guess which position they don’t have yet. They’re also trying to get a PG who would have to reclassify but I forget his name.

I think this is way over the top.

Jimmy used the portal last year and got Cole, Jimmy and Symir. Last year was more about roster makeup, who we lost and too many similar players but those transfer additions were fine. We were not going to get a big time guard unless they were promised a starting spot and that wasn't happening last year.

Name me a forward you think we should have got and would have made a difference vs Cole and Jimmy?

This year we will have one roster spot and will likely get a backup center via the portal. Which we absolutely need?

What ese should we do this year besides kicking JBA and Chaz off the team?

Cuse!
Last year was lazy IMO.

Additions were “fine” enough to take us to a losing season.

Should’ve tried harder to keep Guerrier IMO.

And in the Portal Era, keeping experienced players long enough so they gain that experience, is very difficult.

So, really, it's all down to taking the Portal to Pound Town.
One thing we're haven't seen yet with the portal change is the effect of each player only getting one free transfer... If we focused on getting kids after their freshman year, they will both have a year of division 1 experience and be "captive" for three years under the old rules of needing to sit out a year.

This might be a better way to get kids all things considered. Or maybe plan on getting two portal transfers and two freshman every year? Throw in a grad/senior transfer to fill in depth or starting gaps?

I think you've just got to hit highschool recruiting hard, because it can become secondary recruiting if any of the guys you missed on go portal.

You won't keep everyone in your normal classes, but nobody else will either.

Just seems like your best odds are to have relationships that may pay off short-term, and relationships that may pay off long-term.

Sort of like doubling down? Sounds exactly like something a 78 year old guy would excel at.
