2022 Portal

The portal and immediate eligibility are two different things. The transfer portal existed before the one-time transfer waiver. People wouldn't give a chit about a NCAA website that listed every available transfer if those basketball and football transfers weren't allowed to transfer and play right away like SAs in every other sport the NCAA sponsors.

end rant

I’m speaking immediate eligibility. It wasn’t there when he left. Don’t care what the process was called. Calling it the portal didn’t mean anything until immediate eligibility was included.
Your wrong again, back in 18 and 19 and 20 when guys entered the portal it was called entering the portal. Nothing has changed regarding that. The only change now is immediate eligibility. But guys who transferring to their 3rd and 4th school and may not be immediatly eligible are still entering the portal just like they did in 18, 19, 20.

When you hear that someone is entering the portal what do you think of? Immediately eligible. That’s all anyone talks about when a kid enters the portal. I don’t care what the database was called. Point is Goodine didn’t have immediate eligibility available to he had to get an ncaa waiver. This time he does.

“The NCAA transfer portal is a compliance system created in October 2018 by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) to manage and facilitate the process for student athletes seeking to transfer between member institutions.”

Yea I know. You were speaking literally and I took it to mean what it currently includes which is immediately eligible. I only remember him getting a waiver from the ncaa and would thus be able to use the portal again. In my mind, the first time he was just a transfer. I had forgotten they gave a name to what is basically a database.

Yeah, this is picking nits, I mean come on. I'm with you here.

If people want to parse this out even though using the term portal now means immediate eligibility, please go back through this thread and let me know who has immediate eligibility and who does not. Only 38 pages or so. Please and thank you.

I think we all can use a bit of common sense for what Bees was talking about here and what everyone has been referencing the term to be for present day de facto definition.

Now if you'd let me go back to debating Bees on JB's coaching, we can get the board back in balance. We're into year three of COVID, I'm not getting any younger, and there are only so many options for places to get Labatt Blue Light in NYC that I have to make me happy.

You’re

It’s legitimately insane to me that our coaches aren’t reaching out to some of these forwards. I really have nothing to defend them it’s borderline pathetic if I’m being honest. No way JB thinks we can make some noise or be competitive with the top half of the conference with what we have right now. Nice to see our ACC peers bringing in some good transfers though. Smh

So you're saying he knows that and is just OK with it?

It would be nice to add some talent. There is no downside in bringing someone in.

Couldn't agree more. Literally would give this post a million likes if I could.

Borderline pathetic and I'd argue it's disrespectful to the program.

We have forwards that have shown literally no aptitude yet to play at the high major level, yet we are giving them 80 minutes per game without any help.

Since when has that ever happened?

With 1300 players in the portal now, one would think that recruiting the portal effectively is not only necessary, but the programs that do it successfully will directly translate that recruiting advantage to more success on the court.

Others have argued that the "portal" is no different than recruiting transfers prior to the portal, and it's just a fancy moniker and tracking database for what has always gone on with program to program transfers.

It's a typical strawman argument. The gamechanger with the portal now is the sheer volume of players available. 1300 transfer players all available at once in the portal requires an active and sustained recruiting strategy.

If our default approach is as previously confirmed:

"Let's just cherrypick targets from the players we recruited prior out of highschool because we know who they are..."

That is a terribly limiting strategy and can be summed up in one word - LAZY.

It's also negligent.
