More high school kids heading to community, junior colleges or jumping to the non college route (but I imagine just a select few) - NBA G League or Overtime Elite then? Wonder what all the ramifications will be?

I feel bad for all the kids who are ending up in more worse situations than they were in because they or the people around them thought they were better than they are.

Hopefully as time goes on, the players learn to be a bit more patient or at least a bit more cautious before they jump into the portal.

Just read that over 1000 women went into the portal last year and the number for this year also just went over 1000. So maybe the players are not getting smarter about how to use the portal and to be sure if it is used, it it used to benefit the player.

Players, former coaches, anyone who cares about the kids, please urge them to at least investigate possible interest before jumping into the portal (and probably losing whatever scholarship they have today).

Yeah it's not just the kids anymore. It's bleeding across into folks not raised in that environment.

So it sounds like recruiting assistance through uploading tape and promoting yourself will become ever more critical for kids looking to play college sports. Be great for the NCAA to recognize this and work on improving this process or making it easier for kids to connect with schools via either flexibility around live periods or just flexibilities in general.

To piggyback on this point from Jake. We finally have 2 Live periods in April again, along with 2 in July. Something college coaches were begging for pre-portal but this weekend our staff has spoken to close to 10 schools who have told us they won’t be out this weekend for the first April Live Period because they are hosting transfers this weekend.

The game has changed so much for HS student-athletes and not in a good way.

Over time, that's unsustainable. High school athletes have to get into the system in order to fill college rosters, unhappy members of which stock the portal.

I think this day of the portal shows us what kind of kid Benny really is. He’s just pulling up his boot straps and working harder instead of just blaming other people. He could be a great model of how freshmen should transition to the college game.

It's bizzaro NBA. In the NBA it's all about potential so get there ASAP before your game gets picked apart. In this world the college coaches would rather go with know qualities of portal players than the potential of HS kids.

Future D1 athletes aren't the ones getting participation trophies. They are the athletes that are always picked first in gym class and playground teams because they are simply more athletic than everyone else.
