2022 Spring Practice begins Sunday March 6th

The whole way of Syracuse doing a spring game has been wrong for quite some time. I mean hell even a small college football team like Kennesaw State has had there spring game featured on ESPN and they seem to have full game simulations.

Yeah but how many losses could have been prevented by not letting their opponents see all their plays?

I think the April 1 scrimmage will be all about excitement, hooting, hollering, lights camera, ACCN action - not about game simulation. This will be a made-for-TV event. I’m okay with that. We have the network to ourselves that night… let’s use it.

Was really hoping to see a bigger jump in the DL weights. We are still really light. Biggest standout...Steve Linton still at 217? Yikes!
We are too light. We need to land a couple of game ready kids or we are going to have the ball run down our throats.

According to that roster, Caleb is our biggest DLineman at 269lbs.

Nothing against Elmore who I love but the staff cannot let it come to that, we need transfer help immediately and Chris needs to stay on the other side of the ball
Why? If Elmore can help on D play him. How’s is he going to affective as a 293 pound FB.
They have tried to get transfer help. Cannot make the player come to su. Need to adjust to personnel.

Not sure why people keep expecting big D Lineman. I see these posts every year and I tell guys the same thing. Don’t expect a different answer.
I agree with you but did I see Jatius Geer at 247 lbs!?!?! Wasn’t he supposed to be a contributor this year? Even if he gets to 260 lbs, that is a little on the light side no?

We dont need 340 pounders but we will be trucked if we dont add some size

247 is definitely light if that weight is right.

Kingsley was listed at 260 last year FWIW

I’ve seen 300 pound interior lineman get trucked routinely. Big doesn’t mean good. We need experienced, strong and explosive bodies in this scheme. Big bodies that can’t move does no good. It hurts their scheme.
Agreed but if we cant hope to stop the run with our LBs which is what is going to happen playing this light. Im sure the scheme helps but at the end of the day we will get destroyed in short yardage situations with a bunch of 250 pound kids playing against 325 pounders

We were 2nd in the Acc in rush defense. 26th in the country. We get in position to stop short yardage plays faster than most. The scheme allows lineman to make more plays in the backfield because they are more faster and athletic. You have to live in die with your scheme. They recruited these kids specifically for that. There will be times they get gashed but that is with any scheme. Putting big 300 pounders in doesn’t guarantee anything. Most base 4-3 schemes have them and still don’t stop the run.

We also had 4 men on the D line. 1 300 pounds and the others around 290

It took a couple years for Bear and Black to play in this scheme at a heavier weight. They had them drop weight the previous year. Those are two guys that can move at their weight but they are not 300 pound space eaters. Kingsley 260 Roscoe 275 were the other seniors.

Don’t panic yet. I imagine Lockett, Fuentes and Geer’s weight will go back up. It will be more functional weight. There is still a need for stronger and experienced bodies in the rotation. They have time. They have been targeting transfer D lineman. They lost out on a couple they wanted. They also turned down a couple they didn’t like enough. Spring ball will help them determine how aggressive they should be in the transfer market.

(College football defenses are no longer built to stop the run.)
