2023-24 NBA Season

My Harden take (which I'm sure everyone is dying to hear): The analogy at the end of the rant where if there's a problem everywhere you go, maybe you're the problem is the best one. If you go through all of the individual situations, some of them are more reasonable than others (I can't believe anyone would really blame a guy who doesnt want to hitch his wagon to Kyrie for instance), but it's just like, every time! There's only one common denominator there buddy.

That’s all he needed to say.

Totally understand why somebody would want to get away from Kyrie. And that seems to be the factor that drove him away mo

But he decided to sign up with him and KD/Kyrie and also showed up to the team as a fat piece of **** if I remember correctly, So he had a decent role in the ultimate drama.

Can't say I know the full story in Philly but isn't part of it that Morey basically didn't give him the contract he was expecting after he took a discount last year.

Either way, I hate watching the guy play baskeball even if he is really effective (the level of effectiveness is questionable now though as numbers start to become more based on usage than eliteness).

On the Brooklyn thing: It mostly seems like he gave up on them because he was tired of dealing with Kyrie not getting vaccinated. I think thats understandable (yes, if any player would do soemthing like thats its probably Kyrie, but thats hard to see when you get traded there).

With Morey. Look, that one is in the eye of the beholder. Harden went scorched earth, which makes me think it was less "the contract he was expecting" and more "the contract Morey said he was going to give him". If Morey really did back out of an agreement after Harden took a discount, that is pretty bad and again, I cant really blame him for wanting out.

Also, Clippers lost at home to Memphis.

And the 76ers are rolling without him. Tyrese Maxey at #21 in the 2020 draft is turning into one of those great non lottery picks (not Giannis or Nikola), but at the next tier below them.

Regarding the bolded. That is what I meant - I think Morey made some sort of informal agreement to him regarding the contract which did not end up being offered in the end. Why else would have Harden agreed to a one year discount otherwise. I think Harden can certainly be more than upset, and even quite angry, about that one. I remember that the NBA was "investigating" that one year contract when it was signed - I wonder if Philly used that as an out.

As for Kyrie - agreed the vaccination was an unexpected twist - but still he had a long pattern of crazy before that, that you agreed to hitch onto.

In the end Harden's regression has been significant - 2 years ago when he was traded to Brooklyn it was viewed as a gamechanger. When Simmons-Harden were traded for each other it was viewed as a game changer for both teams. Now its just maybe it could work and make the Clippers possibly contend, but its questionable.

It just seems to me at this point with the new foul rules, he puts gross numbers up from usage, but his effectiveness is limited.

I think Harden is still good, probably even pretty good, but just that. He is still a hell of a passer, but based on his comments, he wants the whole system to revolve around him, which just isn't going to work now if you want to be a really good team.

Last year, for instance, 25% of his attempts came at the rim, he was almost always above 30% in the past. Plus his finishing was worse as well. Just looks like a player who lost some burst

One note with Harden, the Nets bent over backwards to accommodate the big three they got in terms of lifestyle. They basically wrote them a blank check to do whatever tf they wanted.

They also had a lot of control on offensive strat and playcalling and play style.

This isn’t to say other stars don’t do this, but Harden has been accommodated wherever he’s been. Always.

He’s made huge sums of money on salary and huge sums of money with endorsements.

I get the Kyrie stuff to an extent, but Harden left Morey’s soft spot for him and immediately left to go back to it.

And the thing is, he was always able to get by on talent and baseline work ethic. But he’s older now and it can slip real quick. Say what you will about Russ, but the Clips were alright with him. Russ shows up in shape. Russ works hard. Russ’ teammates love him.

The West is a meat grinder. You can’t just rip of five losses in a row and shrug it off.

Morey left Houston before Harden.

The most succinct way I’ve heard it put is

If you get in an argument with someone on your way to work …. You ran into an a hole

If you get into TWO arguments on your way to work… YOU’RE the A hole

8-10 games seems appropriate given that he is a multiple repeat offender.

Maybe I'm just an a-hole who played on teams with holes and was was coached by holes but I have zero issue with Draymond sticking up for his guy. Over the top, sure, but who cares it's nice to see someone stand up for their guy. I love it.

Draymond is great at standing up for teammates, including sucker punching them in the face if needed.
