2023-24 NHL Season Thread

And I want to say good bye to Boston tonight. They looked tired for a few games but seemed to have recovered some in their most recent game.

Boston got dominated the first four games of the series, they were fortunate to get a win. But they outplayed Florida in games 5 & 6…tonight was a tough loss. Would have been interesting to see a game 7 between these two teams (and to see if Boston could win the series after looking so outmatched for 4 games…), but in the end the “lucky wins” evened out and the better team won.

In the one the other night it was pretty clear the O pushed the D into the goalie but it also had zero to do with the actual goal because the goalie was never going to make the play.

This was the opp.. The D pushed the O into the goalie , unless the decided the contact happened before the push. Normally that doesnt get called.
I disagree. Swayman couldn't lift up his stick. We've seen the occassional play where there is an apparently wide open 4 x 6 and the goalie somehow stops the shot with a desperate reach of the stick. Unlikely, yes, but to me he should have been afforded the chance.

I don't agree. One of the things that keeps bringing forwards into contact with the goalie is the defenders push them in, knowing that call usually goes to the defense. Other than that, NHL officiating is atrocious.

Well playoffs were fun. Rangers are toast. They might win one game this series.

Ended up winning two. I was able to profit off their inevitable downfall. Took Florida ML last night and a SGP of Panthers ML, Under 5.5, Under 1.5 1st period goals, and no goals first 10 minutes.

Tough for Dallas to lose a game where they allowed 10 shots and they had a guy get 10 all by himself
Dallas had two tough series' coming in (the last two defending champs), and this one was no easier. That's hockey.

Or Bennett shoving coyle into the goalie . But that’s ok

This will be seventh time a Canadian team will attempt to win the Cup since the last time in 1993, but every time the Canadian team has not been favoured entering the final (as far as I can remember)

More often than not that Canadian team has been the huge underdog
- 1994 Canucks vs Rangers
- 2004 Flames vs Lightning
- 2006 Oilers vs Hurricanes
- 2021 Habs vs Lightning

This 2024 series, 2007 (Ducks/Sens), 2011 (Bruins/Canucks) were more tossup type situations, but the Canadian team has been the slight dog nonetheless every time.

Post 1967 Expansion, 26 Canadian Teams will have now played in the Stanley Cup Finals. And well we know who is not on the list.

Between 1967-1993 Canadian Teams were 16-3 in the Stanley Cup Finals (10 Montreal, 5 Edmonton, 1 Calgary), and only one time did a Canadian team lose to an American team (1983 Oilers to Islanders). Montreal and Calgary lost to each other over a 3 year period.

Since then its been 0-6.

Just to be clear I'm not advancing any conspiracy theories like many tend to do. I think its more circumstances. As noted above 4 of the 6 last Canadian teams to make the Finals were decided dogs.

2021 was Montreal vs Tampa Bay, not Vegas.

They were certainly the biggest underdog on the list.

Taking a week off doesn't help Skinner. I also think Edmonton should resign Zack Kassian for the series.

It was indeed Tampa (a typo as I typed quickly). They were probably the biggest dog, but the Flames and Oilers were huge dogs in 2002 and 2004 as well.
