2023 Spring Practice

I wonder with all the chatter about nutrition do they factor in what these kids are drinking and "smoking" when they go out at night? Doubt it. Football players would never?? I am sure none of them drink or smoke weed.

Kind of why I think the whole thing is a joke
Of course they know they are but weekend drinking if done with good food isn't effecting anything. Diet or nutrition is 70 percent of all lifting programs . If these guys are drinking like u think they are they won't be playing much no matter what.

I don't think nutrition is a joke, but I think there is definitely an overemphasis on it. Unless guys have allergies or sensitivities they can all eat the same things, just vary the portion size. It's the other recovery areas where most of them slip up, like you said. Junk food, sugary drinks, booze and lack of sleep will undo a lot of the nutrition.
I disagree whole heartedly. It's massively important in a lifting regimen.

Exactly, when you a playing a game of inches the correct macros and micros during a lifting regime can mean a huge difference between teams.

I played some d3 football and I can attest that about half the team was smoking and drinking on the regular in the off-season. During the season definitely more dialed in.

And those saying nutrition plans don’t matter because you’re smoking or drinking or getting the late night munchies, it still matters. If you’re getting the proper amount of carbs/fats/proteins/nutrients throughout the day you’re gonna be much better off even if you go slightly over or have a few too many natty ices or stay up til 3am eating Doritos and playing madden while high af.

Don’t forget to factor in youth, metabolism and the intensity of their training. Their margin of error is much greater than ours is in our 40’s/50’s/etc.

I think what I wrote is being misconstrued. I definitely didn't intend to insinuate that nutrition doesn't matter, ot absolutely matters. What I wrote is that I don't think there needs to be a marked difference in the foods that different players are eating, but rather modifying portions. They should all be eating healthy foods that promote muscle building and reduce inflammation. Obviously, there should be exceptions for individuals with other health concerns/allergies or for the odd lineman who needs to lose weight and still maintain strength or a guy who really needs to add bulk faster, like a LB moving to interior line, etc. But how many of those guys are there in a typical season?

What I think is overemphasized is the concept every single player needs to have a detailed individualized diet. That's not the same as saying nutrition doesn't matter.

Agree with all.

See now I differ from u on that. Individualization is the key. That’s why we need a nutritionist. Otherwise u just cook steak, rice, potatoes, and veggies right. Each kid reacts differently to the same foods. Not to mention some kids like certain foods More than others. they should be monitored by what they eat and checked each month. Make little individual changes and the kids input as too how they feel should be very important strength and or muscle mass wise.

Squats and milk, brah. That's all they need.:p

If Thompson is healthy would be nice to see him on the edge
Didnt Thompson get injured in mid September? If so I would think he would be close to full go when camp starts end of July. Getting him back will have a material impact. Same with Lockett. Same with Jacquez. Honestly our dline and LBs are going to be really good if everyone is healthy. Thats not including that Bama transfer. I think Fisher gets our DBs playing. With Rock gameplaning. Honestly I think our D is going to be a swarming mob of pain.

Opening night against Louisville I believe, so early September. The D is going to be nasty, as good as White is, Rocky is better
