We are going to get absolutely annihilated vs Atlanta. Looking forward to seeing the studs their lineup has though.

Atlanta's top-8 position players have all played 95+ games, and 4 have played virtually every game (117).

The Yankees have 5 players who have played 68+ games, including IKF who was supposed to be a role player. Only 2 have played virtually every game (Volpe & Torres).

How does ATL stay so healthy?

The Quikrete patch is the absolute worst. I thought the Starr Insurance patch was bad but that said I'd trade it for Quiktrete if the Yankees could get their pitchers back along with a healthy Judge and Rizzo.

If George was there, he would fire Boone and have Torre manage the rest of the season. And the full house welcoming DJ would be 100 % on board with it.

My Braves position players have definitely had a healthy year, as opposed to the last season or two when Acuna tore his ACL and Albies broke his foot and finger last season. But the pitching staff has had their share of injuries. Fried is only making his 5th or so start tonight, Kyle Wright has been out most of the season and three relievers are currently on the DL.

George was responsible for some of the worst teams in Yankees history as well as numerous other poor decisions. Lets not make him a saint. If he hadn't been suspended and let Gene Michael and Bob Watson run the team, the late 90s juggernauts never would have happened.

Fair point but they also went to 5 out of 6 straight ALCS' in the late 70s/early 80s (winning four of them). That looks rather impressive compared to one WS appearance in the last two decades.

Rock bottom was probably 1991. You could pretty much walk in to the stadium on game day and pick you seats.

And a lot of those 80s teams were pretty good, but just super unstable thanks to GSIII's antics and no job safe, plus the constant draining of the farm system for older depreciating players and tons of underperforming players getting lots of PAs and innings. It was pretty similar to the teams of recent vintage.

The Boss lost his way in the late 80s. The Buhner/Phelps trade is well documented, but it's almost criminal how bad the starting pitching was in those years.

The ace patrol of Rick Rhoden, Andy Hawkins, Dave LaPoint, Tim Leary, Eric Plunk, Greg Cadaret, Scott Sanderson, Chuck Cary and on and on.

Wasn't until Melido Perez in 1992 that they finally had a reliable starter. Then added Jimmy Key, Jim Abbott in 1993 and away we went.

Perception of the 80s would be different if there was a wild card.

Other than 1996, I don't know if I've ever been as into a single season as I was 1985. Even read Phil Niekro's book about it a few times. A wild card that year would have been so much fun.

By the 1997 season I had moved to DC, so the rest of the run, as great as it was, wasn't the same because I couldn't watch every game.
