Greg grew up on County Line Rd between Auburn and Skaneateles. He’s from Caz I think. I’ve run into him a few times over the summer.

He’ll be better than Neptune imho but I agree that he’s far from a home run hire.Willard is going to be very underwhelming for Nova.
Can we get him?!?!?! lol. Or is this a leverage player for more basketball resources?Take this FWIW -

both Willard's move from and Williams's move to maryland are head scratchersI thought Buzz was from Texas?
Someone tell Len hes not a Maryland man, lol.
But seriously, why make this move? easier path to a conference title? slightly less grind than SEC?
What's so great about either guy?I hope the BOT is taking note of what Villanova and MD are doing but they probably have no clue.
Seriously?? They both have had success at multiple programs. I think that counts for something and makes one marketable, but what do I know...What's so great about either guy?
I think the best part is Buzz had a $1m buyout and Williard $2m, yet it sounds like from some on here, Red's is much, much higher than that.I hope the BOT is taking note of what Villanova and MD are doing but they probably have no clue.
Buzz has won 62% of his games for his career. Willard has won 57% and 2 tournament games until this year. I'd rather go after an up and comer than retreads.Seriously?? They both have had success at multiple programs. I think that counts for something and makes one marketable, but what do I know...
I’m surprised they hired him tbh. He does not fit their character mold. I would be shocked if this is a long term situation.Willard is going to be very underwhelming for Nova.
I think both are retreads, not to mention vagabonds. First word that came to mind when I saw Buzz Williams' photo was 'grizzled'.Buzz has won 62% of his games for his career. Willard has won 57% and 2 tournament games until this year. I'd rather go after an up and comer than retreads.
It is not; that is just the story.I think the best part is Buzz had a $1m buyout and Williard $2m, yet it sounds like from some on here, Red's is much, much higher than that.
I’m a big Buzz fan. I’d love for him to come here and turn things around. Buzz researched coaches and their tenures and determined that it’s best to stay at a program for around 6-8 years before fans and stakeholders start getting sick of you and things go south or plateau. He’s a super analytical guy, for those of you who remember him from his days at Marquette and Va Tech. I did think Texas A&M would be his last stop since that’s where he’s from and he’s got them in the top 25 the past couple of years. He also could view Maryland as a place where he can win a national title.Buzz has said before that he likes building programs and doesn't really like sticking around any one place for very long.
Agreed. However I would have taken both over AutryAs a SU fan, I wouldn’t be excited if either were hired at SU. Both are underwhelming coaching candidates.
You could be right. I’ve been wondering about this as well. Lots of factors and details still to shake out with the settlement and its effects.I would like to point out something, that may be nothing, but I think is something.
It appears this house settlement / salary cap thing is starting to level the playing field a bit.
Especially the recent movement of coaches, which tends to be a leading indicator. Schools that are traditional FB types are apparently hinting that the endless gravy train for their respective hoops programs is coming to an end.
This could certainly tip the scales back toward traditional BB brands and schools. Williams to Maryland, and Willard to Nova might be canaries in the coal mine.
I could also be very wrong.
Willard is an absolute turd of a human. But Buzz is a really good coach, imo. Ask JB. I’m pretty sure he’d agree. Buzz’s winning percentage is somewhat dampened by his first few years at Va Tech and Texas A&M when he was building those programs up.Buzz has won 62% of his games for his career. Willard has won 57% and 2 tournament games until this year. I'd rather go after an up and comer than retreads.
You seem to be talking about two different things; the buyout that the new employer is paying to the former is what is Buzz and Willard would refer to, whereas the "buyout" for Red would be the payment made by the current employer to fulfill the remainder of the contract for terminating the employee. I doubt very much that anyone would be stepping up to pay a buyout to hire Red regardless of what his "buyout" might be.I think the best part is Buzz had a $1m buyout and Williard $2m, yet it sounds like from some on here, Red's is much, much higher than that.
