Dan Patrick had Sankey on his show last week, and asked him about the SEC's basketball ascendancy. Sankey said he could trace it to a single day--Selection Sunday, 2016, his first NCAA tourney as SEC commissioner. SEC got only 3 teams in, for the 4th time in 10 years. He fired his outside consultants, whom he said had concentrated too much on "gaming" the old RPI system. The next day he hired---Mike Tranghese, who advised them to concentrate on coaching hires and building up facilities.Bloomberg had a very similar article.
I'll believe it when I see it.
The SEC has spent the better part of a decade ascending to the top of Hoops mountain and now they're just going to passively turn into Sisyphus?
No way.
Now that Sankey has effectively turned the NCAA tourney into the SEC invitational, he'll do whatever it takes to stay on top...
