2024-25 Coaching Carousel

Bloomberg had a very similar article.

I'll believe it when I see it.

The SEC has spent the better part of a decade ascending to the top of Hoops mountain and now they're just going to passively turn into Sisyphus?

No way.

Now that Sankey has effectively turned the NCAA tourney into the SEC invitational, he'll do whatever it takes to stay on top...
Dan Patrick had Sankey on his show last week, and asked him about the SEC's basketball ascendancy. Sankey said he could trace it to a single day--Selection Sunday, 2016, his first NCAA tourney as SEC commissioner. SEC got only 3 teams in, for the 4th time in 10 years. He fired his outside consultants, whom he said had concentrated too much on "gaming" the old RPI system. The next day he hired---Mike Tranghese, who advised them to concentrate on coaching hires and building up facilities.

Thanks Mike Tranghese, one of the Big East founders along with Dave Gavitt.

Sure. Had nothing to do with the new NIL rules and the SEC able to finally openly outspend on players.

And I can smell the I-95 bridge over the Susquehanna River burning.

Some of the Maryland moves sound familiar ... Particularly the slow-to-react administration regarding NIL needs and insufficient focus and strategy in that space. Plus nickel-and-diming the program on expense management side.

But Willard also sounds like a tool. Took a P4 conference job and then starts bitching and moaning that football gets too much of the pie and strung Maryland along in bad faith as he got his Nova deal done. Should have gone to one of the Catholic bball-only schools to begin with if he didn't want to compete with football on resources and wanted to be big man on campus.

Sankey mentioned that he had grown up "outside of Syracuse, NY" and was familiar with the building of the Big East, and Tranghese's part in it. Which is why he called on him.
He’s from Caz I think. I’ve run into him a few times over the summer.

The Big 10 is a glorified mid major for basketball. I don't think it's a huge ask to expect a major conference to win a championship once in 25 years.
