2024-25 Coaching Carousel

The way they just got dominated in the final minutes was kind of a turn off. I get the feeling all the buzz was getting to them. A lot of national media pundits hyping them up all weekend and on this board as well including me lol.

Two years in the Sun Belt. No regular season titles, no NCAA appearances. Hard for me to believe that’s gonna have P4 schools salivating
No p5 school is going to hire a coach from the Sun Belt that has never won the regular season or conference tourney championship.

The Oats thing is funny. He brought Buffalo to the tournament 2x and won games in the NCAA. Don’t act like Bama hired him when he didn’t win but saw him as up and coming.

step 1. Bring team to ncaa tournament
Step 2. Win a game or be competitive in tournament

Then you will get tons of offers if you are a non p5 coach

100% he's leaving. That's my read. He's a great coach and Indiana native.
No, not with the scrutiny at Indiana and unrealistic expectations. Just keep winning at Clemson and making NCAAs and that'll keep their hoops fans happy. Clemson's a football school. Indiana is a basketball school and they'll ride him out of there quick if they don't make F4s or compete for NCs.

I don’t think the pressure at IU is that intense. They haven’t made the final 4 since 2002 and their last championship was 1987 (ugh)

You are probably correct on that. Indiana hasn't been nationally prominent in forever. I think their fans have probably accepted the downfall. I hope our fans don't accept a downfall for us.

He was rumored to be on a very hot seat after the 2022-2023 season after losing in the first round in the NIT. He saved his job last year in a very big way. Without Chase Hunter, Scheffelin, Lakhin, Zachery and Foster all gone next year, he will really need to hit the portal hard at Clemson. He has 2 pretty good juniors Wiggins, Dylan Hunter etc but lots of big holes to fill too.

They mentioned again tonight that chase Hunter and Scheflin, between them, have 295 starts at Clemson. That's the sort of continuity that we're unlikely to see again.

Basically, Brownell caught lightning in a bottle. Now would be a good time to bail.

There also may be some hurt feelings from his 15 year tenure and the pressure and criticism he got until last year for making just 3 NCAA tournament appearances his first 13 years. It could be perceived as another hit to the ACC’s reputation losing another experienced coach, especially to look like a stepping stone to go to the Big 10. Clemson has money to pay him so it will be interesting to see what happens.

You can make the NCAAT from the B1G by finishing in the bottom half. In the ACC, you need top 4-5.

In another world, Indiana would still be a Blue Blood alongside the Dukes & UNCs. Kelvin Sampson could be killing it there.
