2024-25 Portal

Some of these comments are flat out hysterical

People do realize that a lot of studs that are playing with power 4 teams came from basically dogchit programs. Kid from florida - iona. Kid from auburn - morehead st. Dalton knetch was from northern colorado for gods sake

You dont need power 4 transfers. Just find the right guys and be patient. Why rush this process.

Good lord. Its like raising my children all over agaiin

Is anyone as impatient as I am? This portal already feels like a failure. Shouldn’t expect anything much from this staff.

They hyped up this NIL money but it seems there are no takers. We should have had a long list of transfers to target. We should have already nailed atleast one good one down.

We have no identity to even recruit for. Just throwing darts at a portal dart board.
Take a breath...maybe a break

Yeah how did that work out last season?
You think Red can take these dogchit program guys and do with them what the top teams do?
It’s hard to be optimistic after a 4 year drought.

Blake Buchanan, Virginia 6’11” forward has transferred to Iowa State. Thought he was a player that would fit here in Syracuse.

Settle down. Like i said “find the right guys”.

This is cray. LSU’s coach is on the hot seat and hasn’t proven anything. Very weird choice for this kid. I wish we had been able to get involved.

Who says we weren't talking to him/his agent??

Newsflash: Maybe what we valued him at was a light bag based on other offers?? ...and also, we're not exactly a dream destination at the moment either.

I am concerned that all but 2 left and we have only brought in one transfer.
And the center we got is an injury project based on how little he played last year.
If this is the first week of May and this is the situation. Yes, I would be concerned. But it’s literally April 1st. The final four hasn’t even happened yet. Still plenty of talent out there still available and more talent becoming available by the day. If this was May, yeah we’re probably getting leftovers, but the quality of the food at the buffet hasn’t changed and may only be getting better by the day.

We were very involved.
I know we supposedly reached out. Do you know what happened? We have legit NIL money this time around, so I’m hoping we can get a really good PG in the portal. Is Claude gonna be our guy?

Neither is LSU! Their record was as bad as ours.

Can we have two former UCLA players at the center spot, please?
He does look like a good one too. He and Kyle split time with minimal minutes behind their starter. UCLA have a guard/forward oriented program. They had a smaller type starting lineup and didn’t favor bigger center rim protector types.

We may have "legit" NIL money, but we will never have $EC NIL money, especially for multiple players when we have to fill out an entire roster.

I don’t know if this is true, and I don’t think you can say that either. It definitely seemed to be true this season for the SEC, but every school is different and every year could be different. NIL is a bit of a black box because nothing is public and everything seems very fluid.

SEC ADs have actually talked about how they’re worried the Big East could possibly be able to dominate basketball because they don’t have football to worry about in the direct payments to players settlement. Lots to shake out still.

I'm personally not concerned because we know via some of our insiders here that we are talking to some bigger names/we've probably reached out to some people that are not publicly known yet.

I think the list of names that is confirmed on X/confirmed by people here are (with On3 industry rankings and ESPN DXV ratings where possible):

Guards:
  • Kezza Giffa
  • Derrian Ford - was a 4 star, top 100 recruit
  • Malachi Smith - #88 on On3
  • Del Jones
  • Silas Demary - #13 on On3, 76 rating on DXV
  • Jacari White - #85 on On3
  • Dedan Thomas - #8 on On3, 76 rating on DXV, committed to LSU
  • Treysen Eaglestaff - #38 on On3, commited to South Carolina
Wings:
  • Nate Kingz
  • Kobe Magee, #37 on On3, committed to Florida State
  • Keonte Jones
  • Amarion Dickerson (though he plays more like a big than a wing)
Bigs:
  • William Kyle (committed) - unranked, 73 rating on DXV
  • Quincy Ballard - #70 on On3
  • Dishon Jackson - #60 on On3, 77 rating on DXV
Unconfirmed Dot Connecting:
  • Desmond Claude, guard - was a 4 star, top 100 recruit and would likely be one of the higher ranked targets available if he enters the portal
  • Jalil Bethea, guard - #25 on On3
  • Jahmir Watkins, wing - would instantly be one of the top targets available if he gets eligibility/enters the portal
Overall, sort of a mixed bag of guys that are rated fairly high or have been productive college players that can offer things that we desperately need (Giffa - ball-handling, quickness, drawing fouls, Kingz (shooting), Jones/Dickerson (playing way above their weight class). Del Jones (and maybe Derrian Ford) is the only one that doesn't neatly fit into these categories, so I have to assume someone on our staff liked him in high school.
Can we just stop with the "was a 4 star, was a top 100 recruit" BS? Once they spend any time in college that all goes out the window and is absolutely meaningless.
