2024-25 Portal

I'm happy with what we got. Freeman coming back is bigger than anyone we've added since NIL came along I'd argue

But we prob have 1-2 more weeks tops to get a high end PG.

They were gone by mid April last year and we were stuck with Leffew (who wasn't even a PG and we didn't even get) and Carlos.
Agreed.

If Freeman were in the portal, wouldn't he be a top 10 guy? Since he announced his return, I think some here have forgotten how big this is to have him back in the starting rotation next year (healthy). I'm still optimistic our roster is going to be much better going into the season than last year (but do admit, I'm a bit nervous watching guys get plucked).

Such a good point. If we picked up Freeman, we would be very excited.

Would seem some UNC faithful are a little worried about us... hopefully a good sign.

George is going to get paaaaid. If we get in a bidding war, it'll only benefit him. I just hope we don't lose it.

I think UNC could be as desperate as us though, so this could be tough. Looks like they have a couple combo guards coming in, with the kid Dixon likely to play PG for them right now. The other kid seems more an off ball guard. They also brought in Powell from WV but he's mostly an outside shooter only SG/SF type. They still should have Seth Trimble, but I don't think he'll be their PG..

I understand - but after 2+ years, I don't have a great sense that this staff CAN get it done. Regardless of how much money they have.

Time will tell. Just saying that for all the fawning over the two portal guys, our team isn't massively better than this past year -- when we had our worst year in modern history.
There’s a lot still to shake out, but I think we’re going to assemble a very solid roster. The big question will be: Can Red actually coach these guys and build a team? Like you, I’m skeptical about his abilities. But it is what it is at this point, so I’m going to try to be hopeful going into next season—if we can get some real talent in here. I also hope he’s going to be at the Final Four this weekend and working to hire two new assistant coaches—one an older experienced guy who can coach defense and one a budding young offensive mastermind who understands modern schemes.

If money is #1 importance to George and George is #1 PG target of Texas, and they are all in on him then we should move on because regardless of how much money we think we have, we don't have Texas money. Now, money might not be the #1 priority for George, and George might not be Texas' #1 target.

I think you can forget about Lee, has the famous "Do not contact me" tag-

This guy is the real deal at PG...

Is the "Do not contact" code for "I already have my landing spot negotiated"?

not BB related but there is some shady stuff going on by some big time schools in the portal. I know we all know its a thing but still. And its across all the sports.

When you actually hear the details in the smaller sports it makes you wonder what the money sports are doing.

Examples?

Wonder what makes this kid intriguing for bigger schools? 6 and 4 at Monmouth with average shooting numbers. Started his whole freshman year, then only half the games this year. Good size and can knock down the 3 ball a bit, so as a 3rd/4th forward, probably not bad. Just seems odd with that production at a MAAC school that he’d have that interest.

Sounds strange, but maybe coaches have things that they look at outside of stats...

One of their longtime initiatives is a legends collective where the minimum donation is a million dollars. The donors want secrecy, staying out of the limelight, no publicity for their donations.
I learned from the 2000 cinematic classic The Skulls that if it's secret and elite, it can't be good.

And one has to interview to join.
I refuse to join any club that will have me as a member.

Can't operate that way. If we really want someone, we have to go all in to get them.
