2024-25 Yankees Off Season

Cabrera has had many opportunities over the last three years (appearing in 268 games) to demonstrate he is a starter in this league. He has a career 80 wRC+ (i.e., not good). He is a switch hitter, but is useless hitting right handed. He is a versatile backup who has big moments, but is exposed when he gets extended playing time. He is only pushing 26 so I guess he could still be better, but I can’t believe anybody who watches this team daily thinks he “needs to play.”

Agree. I really like him as a utility guy. And these days with the rest players get, they get enough run.

DJ really worries me, but since they're paying him, I can see them giving it one last Aaron Hicks try.

Arraez is intriguing. Defense, not great. Batting average could take a dip at home with less room to work with in right field for a singles/doubles hitter (probably a couple more HRs). But all new age metrics aside, I'm always a fan of guys who put the bat on the ball. Guess it depends on what they would give up.

Wait until the Torres-haters see Arraez’s defense.

Well, Torres is gone and the Yankees clearly didn't want him. Didn't even talk contract with him at all (per Gleyber). So there's probably more to it than any message boarder knows.

That said, I'm mentally prepared for the DJ, Volpe, Jazz, Goldschmidt infield, God help us all.

I'll bet they could coax Josh Donaldson to come out of retirement.

DJ, JD..

It was reported by several news agencies back at the end of July. Boone was even quoted saying he talked to Gleyber about it.When Gleyber was asked by reporters about playing 3rd he got defensive and said he plays 2nd base.Bottom line is the guy was a head case and the Yankees and most Yankee fans are happy he is gone.
i agree with your last sentence.

Thats it.

i remember them talking about it, but it never really being considered.

the thought to just move him to 3rd, just because Jazz is there, is preposterous on many levels.

smart organizations do not do that.

they kicked the tires that was it, smart organizations do that.

there was never a:

''Gleybor go to 3rd"
"No"

moment.

anyway, water under the bridge. Yanks still need a 3b.

That’s a better infield than they had last year

Yeah, I guess it's just DJ in the lineup that worries me most. He was so exceptionally bad this year and he's not getting younger (turns 37 at the all star break). But I guess you can mix him in with Cabrera, keep him fresh and just hope this offseason he can overcome the health demons from last year.

Defensively it should be pretty good.

I have heard it said that LeMahieu has a weak arm at 3B, but I have not noticed it personally.
