Gleyber's Day...
1-year, $15 million.
That has to be one heck of a letdown for his first FA contract. Maybe a change of scenery will improve his consistency.

It didn’t hurt Jeter.Gleyber sealed his fate when he refused to play 3rd after the Jazz acquisition.
Wonder why?It didn’t hurt Jeter.
I assume we will get another move because, as things stand, either LeMahieu, Cabrera, or Peraza will be starting at an infield position.
I think the disappointment narrative is so strong that he is actually underrated. His worst offensive season, 2021 with a 96 wRC+, is better than Volpe's best offensive season (86 wRC+ in 2024).That has to be one heck of a letdown for his first FA contract. I think of most of us got there last season.I fear it's time to move on from LeMahieu. I couldn't bear to watch him go through another season like this past one. It's terrible for a guy who was so solid for so long to fizzle so miserably.
Do people really believe he isn’t a good offensive player or are most just tired of his act?I think the disappointment narrative is so strong that he is actually underrated. His worst offensive season, 2021 with a 96 wRC+, is better than Volpe's best offensive season (86 wRC+ in 2024).
How much time do they give him until he has to shave?
When do players report to Tampa? How much time do they give him until he has to shave?

Cut him
except that didnt happen.Gleyber sealed his fate when he refused to play 3rd after the Jazz acquisition.I think most Yankee fans really liked Gleyber but he was as maddening of a player I can recall.Might not replace his offensive potential but won’t be hard to find a better defensive 2nd baseman.
I guess Michael Kay made that up then.except that didnt happen.
the Yankees never asked him, nor should they have.
He never said it.I guess Michael Kay made that up then.
It was reported by several news agencies back at the end of July. Boone was even quoted saying he talked to Gleyber about it.When Gleyber was asked by reporters about playing 3rd he got defensive and said he plays 2nd base.Bottom line is the guy was a head case and the Yankees and most Yankee fans are happy he is gone.He never said it.
It’s been debunked if he did.
Yankees never asked.
I believe he talked in hypotheticals though.
I am not happy until they replace him with someone better than Cabrera, LeMahieu, or Peraza.IBottom line is the guy was a head case and the Yankees and most Yankee fans are happy he is gone.
Im aware as I believe you have made that clear in the past, but I’ll be happy with anyone that keeps their head in the game.Yankees probably aren’t getting anyone that will match Gleyber’s bat, but give me a plus defender with a little less offense and I’m happy.I am not happy until they replace him with someone better than Cabrera, LeMahieu, or Peraza.
I get that. I'm not completely sold on Chisholm at 3rd. I'd rather see him move to 2nd where he's (apparently) more comfortable and go with Cabrera at 3rd. Based on my limited exposure, it's my guess Cabrera is a gamer with some talent, and he needs to play. The team needs to move ahead from the Judge/Soto platform. It seems they're doing that, but I don't think putting DJL in a starting position is consistent with that.Im aware as I believe you have made that clear in the past, but I’ll be happy with anyone that keeps their head in the game.Yankees probably aren’t getting anyone that will match Gleyber’s bat, but give me a plus defender with a little less offense and I’m happy.
Cabrera has had many opportunities over the last three years (appearing in 268 games) to demonstrate he is a starter in this league. He has a career 80 wRC+ (i.e., not good). He is a switch hitter, but is useless hitting right handed. He is a versatile backup who has big moments, but is exposed when he gets extended playing time. He is only pushing 26 so I guess he could still be better, but I can’t believe anybody who watches this team daily thinks he “needs to play.”Based on my limited exposure, it's my guess Cabrera is a gamer with some talent, and he needs to play…
I was really pulling for him, especially when he was younger. He plays hard, runs well -- things most of the old farts on the team don't seem to do. However, he's a borderline starter/more of a utility fill in guy. If the plan is to make him the everyday starter, then that's not good.Cabrera has had many opportunities over the last three years (appearing in 268 games) to demonstrate he is a starter in this league.
