2024 Fall Ball

The legendary lax youtuber huntva released this footage of Hopkins v. Air Force. Hop appears to go with at least some starters the whole time and they lose 7-6. Not worth reading into that much, especially with all their new faces, but hard to ignore Melendez still looking timid and slow off the dodge, even against short sticks. Some kind of injury has really compromised his burst from the 2023 season.

Same quality footage from huntva, but less screaming psychos in the crowd compared to his old videos. In those even the scrimmages had some hop fan Karens.

I didn't watch the video, but it sounds like Webb started in goal for Hopkins, not the Loyola transfer Luke Staudt. Kind of surprising. Also sounds like Staudt struggled when he came into the game. Something to watch for.

Curious about the Hopkins offense. If Melendez is still struggling, not sure where they make up the difference. Dr. Degnon was a huge contributor for them. Chauvette looks like a really good player, but Degnon was a lot bigger (6'4 220), compared to the sophomore who is only 5'10 170. I feel like at some point opposing defenses will figure out a way to limit his shooting. He'll have to expand his game somehow. Ayers never really scared you when he was in the game last year and Angelus was one of the most underrated players in the country the last few years. They get English back, but still a lot of questions.

One does sort of wonder if this might end up being a bit of an off year for UVa. Often in the past, when UVa has lost a lot of offensive fire power, they have had an impact freshman step in, but this year their 2 top freshmen attackmen, Duenkel and Kyle Colsey are injured.
a lot is going to depend on how M Millon handles facing a number one close defender, how Colsey transitions back to attack and facing a pole 100% of the time, and how Sunderland has progressed. Replacing Shellenberger's and Cormier's production is no small task.

Sounds like a lot of players were missing from this one (King, Botkiss, Greene for Harvard and Taylor, Faison Jeffrey for ND). Looks like Pokorny is making a move to start next to Taylor and Kavanaugh for Notre Dame. Alex Zepf got the start in goal for the Irish. There were rumblings that Devon McLane might come back this year for the Irish - he's not listed on the roster for '25 and not mentioned in this write-up, but no one has taken his #29 jersey.

Bringing it back to Cuse - I feel we match up pretty good with UVA. Dwan and Figueiras are very familiar with Sunderland and Millon.
