Surprised we haven't heard anything regarding the second scrimmage vs Providence. Hopefully something comes out soon.

Thanks to all for the updates regarding the first game. It sounds like they did a fair bit of mixing and matching. Hearing that Thomson played attack (with I'm guessing Spallina and Deere) is a bit surprising. I'm guessing he will move back to midfield for the season, but I guess just something to note for now.

Nice to see that Rice is providing an offensive punch. I would say that has been the one thing lacking in his game the last few years. If he can be a real two-way threat that could really open things up. Obviously you have Dwan who is a threat to score every time he crosses midfield, but replacing Olexo's transition production will be important.

Lastly, John Mullen looks freaking huge. It's hard to think another fogo will matchup with him physically.

Nice goal here from Kraftson.

Would not read into Thomson playing attack at all. For most of what I saw the starting middies were guys likely to be ssdm/wing players during the regular season. He did very well in the part I saw. May have come out of the box a handful of times too.

That Kraftson goal is basically the play I was referencing that looked "Hiltz-like". Not blinding speed but smoothness and good timing on his moves all game. Had a nice 1v1 goal against a longpole as well. Could be a playing time candidate down the line.

Deere and Spallina were not on the field when Thomson was running the offense. I can’t remember who else was out there now, but essentially Thompson replaced Spallina in the 4th quarter.
How'd the freshman show during the scrimmages?

Thanks DMV! This is helpful. A little surprised that even with a split team, the Orange didn't do better here, but it's probably not worth getting too up or down about scrimmage results, no matter what.

Just looking through the list of goal scorers, seems like perhaps the big winner of the weekend was Trey Deere. If the stats tracking is accurate (always tricky), he finished the weekend with six goals in the two games (three in each). Have to imagine that helps his case in locking down a starting spot.

I think "OM playing D" is a big factor here. 90% of the quality looks Airforce got were when they dodged against an O middie on defense. I assume it was similar for providence. Yes it is split teams but at the very least Carter Rice, English, Spallina, and Mullen are huuuge pieces of the puzzle. Very different team without those guys out there.

Glad to see Deere did well in both games. Wish I caught more of the first half of Airforce to see his goals. He is lethal on two man game plays, which is a big part of the offense. He has my vote for third attack. Wonder how much Anderson and Leo played, if at all, since they did not appear in the stats against Providence.

Last I heard, Leo was nursing an injury so he didn't play.

After his worlds performance, anyone notice how Stone Evans did for Providence? Seemed like a big get for them, and also since he de-committed from Air Force I do wonder if that was awkward at all haha

any word on how anderson, cam ryan or drew angelo did?
No word on Anderson or Ryan, but I saw Angelo against Airforce and he looked quality. Maybe not as strong off the clamp as Mullen (which is a tall order) but tenacious on groundballs and clearly a high end athlete. Very big strong and fast for a freshman at any position. Had a nice goal late in the game.
