It looks like Hopkins is indeed the home team. I’m guessing they find a neutral field for the 2025 matchup?
Stealing this from a Hopkins fan but last years Crown City classic against High Point and Jacksonville had less than 1k fans. Having SU and Hopkins involved should drive up ticket sales but I’m still not sure I understand the reasoning for having the game in Charlotte.
There isn’t much of a recruiting benefit (unlike last years game against UNC in DC). I don’t see a #growthegame angle since Chapel Hill and Durham are 2 hours away. Hopkins is due to play UNC in North Carolina next season anyway. Not sure SU will, as I think the Duke game is in Syracuse and the UNC game is neutral field, but the ACC tournament is in NC, so they hopefully will. Any other normal year they would play at least once in North Carolina. Maybe organizers are throwing a decent amount of money at them? Just seems strange.
