2024 SyracuseFan Fantasy Baseball

I am winning more than losing, thus my over 500 record. But I can't seem to get that breakout week to move up in the standings. Just kind of going along with 6-5, 7-5 wins.
It's a long season. You get the breakout weeks on both sides of the equation.

I know. I got totally smoked this week. Who was it that said, "You never are as good as you look when you're winning, and you're never as bad as you look when you're losing"?

I can only hope that the second part of that phrase is true moving forward...

couSome random things on my team, which looks like it will lose a very close 6-5 match this week to Steve with many close categories.

1) My team hit like prime roided up Mark McGwire this weekend.
114 At Bats, 16 HR, 36 RBI, 1.088 OPS (Rough Calc)

2) Unfortunately Jordan Romano's blown save today (walkoff 3 Run HR) might have cost me 2.5 points. ERA, WHIP, and a tie in the saves category . Freaking Jays.

3) Finally dropped Kodai Senga off my injured list. He has had so many up and downs while on the IL. In late April, looked like the Mets might have erred in placing him on the 60 day IL, as the progress seemed great. Then all of a sudden it seemed like he could no longer pitch to players as he channeled his inner Ricky Vaughn. Some mechanical and physical tweaks, and now nothing seems known.

My condolences to the player with Acuña on his team. I hope you enjoyed the first two months of your season.

I know Acuna wasn't his normal superstar self this year, but, even as a Phillies fan, I hated to see this. One of the most charismatic players in MLB who, when he's going strong, can beat you so many different ways.

8 weeks down and I’ve won a hitting category just 10 times. My team could be much worse but does someone want any pitcher(s) for a high end batter?

Keller for Chourio. Proposal Sent.
Seems fair - two players that are disappointing a bit but have potential to do better.

I don't do many trades (I think I did 1 last year and 1 this year), and this trade isn't encouraging me to do many more!

Keller is 6-0 in 6 starts, with an ERA of 1.14 since I traded him
Chourio went 4/27 (.148) with my team, with 1 Run and 1 Steal. I then released him.

I have had many good breaks this year and Guy has had many tough breaks. But this one certainly went in the other direction.

True sink or swim trade. Keller was in cut territory he was so bad early in the year. Chourio is a strange case and I’m still a believer, just don’t know if it’s a confidence or injury issue.

On another note, MLB TV has a Father’s Day special that will get you ann annual pass for $60 in case interested parties want to watch Skenes, Judge, Henderson, Witt and Ohtani.

Maybe a tip for some... or maybe I was the only that didn't know, or maybe its new.
But a no risk move opportunity if you are not using your 6 adds in that week and you have an open IL spot(s)

You can add a player directly to your IL and you don't need to have / create an open active roster spot for it. I have been open to hoarding IL players in fantasy for the past few years, but always thought you had to create an open active roster spot first as an intermediate step, which could be a pain.

I had finally got my IL list down to 3 so I was looking at Scherzer -- but I was wondering who I would need to drop first. The answer is nobody. You can add a player directly to your IL list

Very interesting. I don't remember it working like that in the past either, but I like it.

Good to see I wasn't the only one surprised by it. See you acted quickly in picking up Kershaw. I think that's a nice pickup that could pay off come playoff time (In our league) Still few other good opportunities out there I think.

I thought i should share the info as it didn't seem fair that I would be the only who became aware of it.

I know I've been pretty conservative with accepting trades in the past, but I'm open for business this season. Only Bobby Witt is totally untouchable. You're really going to have to make it worth it to trade Salvy or Devers, but I'll listen.

I was WONDERING why so many managers had injured players on their active rosters.

Now I know. Yep, you have four spots. You can be creative with them. I tried to claim an injured player last week only to find out he'd been activated and sent to the minors to scrape off the rust.

Pissed me off.

Hak just dismantled me. I’m not sure I’ve seen a better fantasy week the past few years in Yahoo. I think he would have beat almost every team at least 9-3 last week. Absolute beautiful performance.

When I posted the above it was the first time all year I got below 4 players on my injured list.. often had 5 or 6 injured players (at beginning of the year it was strategic hoarding). Finally one IL spot opens up, I picked up Scherzer.

Within 5 days, I get 3 fresh injuries (Bradish, Verlander, Yimi Garcia (closer)), and Mike Trout's status was pushed way back yesterday. Although the Trout injury risk rule always prevails -- you get what you pay for.

I suspect I have had great, perhaps massive, luck in close categories all year. But injuries have not been part of that.

Yep.

It seems like one sure way to guarantee your team will have a rash of injuries is to try to hoard a player or two who are on the DL.

Doesn't stop me from trying.

But, then, I never learn.

An 11.47 team ERA over 25 innings is not easy to pull off!
I had one of those weeks last week. Managed to get it down to 6.36 ERA and 1.53 WHIP by the end, but it was an ugly one.

Streaming Success!
1 inning
72.00 ERA
9.00 WHIP

Wanted a good chance at a win, and figured I had the ERA and WHIP category under wraps. so I went with Baltimore's Povich against Oakland... so much for the win, and now the other categories are at risk.

And now McKenzie Gore who was spotted a 9-0 lead after two innings, gives up 4 in the 3rd, and probablt won't make it to the end of the 5th. I have now entered I hate this team mode.

Uh, does anybody have Lance Lynn? I mean, yikes!:

3 IP 10 ER.

3 IP 10 ER.

I was going to choose between Pavich (1 IP, 8 ER) and Lance Lynn (3 IP, 10 ER) today.
I chose Pavich -- at least I get some comfort in knowing there was no right call to be made.

I believe I have managed to fall all the way from first place 6 weeks ago, to being out of the playoffs (top 6) as of now. Losing 44-22 over the past 6 weeks.

My entire draft between pick #6-#15 is now largely useless.. All I have left to show for those 10 picks is Tanner Bibee and Spencer Steer.
Injuries have done me in as well as some bad picks and one bad trade.
I managed to fill the holes earlier in the year, but my pickups eventually couldn't keep it going.

#6. Mike Trout (96 AB's) out for season. His comeback lasted 2 innings - LOL.
#7. Mat McLain (has not played all year) - was supposed to be back by early April on draft night. That was quickly pushed back. Never came back. Might be available in September,
#8. Spencer Steer - Ranked #91 in Fantasy, so he has slotted largely as expected.
#9. Jordan Romano (13 Terrible Innings) - Out for season.
#10. Tanner Bibee - Ranked #68, so a bit better than slot.
#11. Paul Sewald - (26 Mediocre Innings). Demoted out of closer.
#12. Joe Musgrove (44 Bad Innings) - Out since end of may. Released
#13. Kodai Senga (0 Innings - Out for Season) - On draft night was expected to be back by end of April. Never came back.
#14. Shane Bieber (12 Great Innings to Start - Out for Season)
#15. Mitch Kellar (Traded in a Bad Trade for Chourio who I released, before he started finally hitting- so nothing to show for the pick)

It's not much better between picks #16-#25, although I assume many have moved on from those picks -- I have Eovaldi, Carlos Morel, Gavin Williams and an injured Justin Verlander to show for it.

Only good thing is five weeks left.

I'm hanging in at six but have had a couple bad weeks, and even though my guys are playing lights out this week, the guys I'm facing have been even better.

Should be a good race to the playoffs

I couldn't believe last week. I had a 10-0 heading into Friday night but several categories were still toss-ups. I lost every single one that was close and split 5-5.

Time to compain about my team again!
My implosion is nearly complete - I'm trying my best to make moves because of injuries (drafted some injury risks is part of that) and a bad draft.

After 11 weeks - 25 games above .500 and may have been first or second with Steve (whose team is now on a roll),
Last 10 weeks - 32 games below .500.
Now 7 games below .500, and only a 0.5 game ahead for the last playoff spot.
In the first half I picked up some gems who were playing well but they fizzled as expected (Heliot Ramos)

In retrospect my draft was a disaster!
3 of my top 4 picks have stunk in the second half (Harper, Rutschmann, Julio Rodriguez)

Of the 20 players players I drafted 6-25, only 7 of 20 remain active in the league. 5 on my team

Injured for rest of year (or released due to injury)- 6,7,9, 12, 13, 14, 17, 22
Released for Poor Play (and still FA)- 11, 19, 20, 21, 25
Released and Re-acquired by somebody else - 24
Bad Trade - 15 (Keller) for Chourio (bad release)
Still Contributing - 8 (Steer), 10 (Bibee). 16 (Eovaldi). 18 (Verlander). 23 (Pepiot)

In the first half I picked up some gems who were playing well and they continued it for a while (Heliot Ramos) but eventually they fizzled as expected.
