2024 Yankees Season

Morning all, slept well then remembered Nestor Cortes was brought in to give up a walk off and lose a World Series game.

Managing is tough, but he’s been throwing the ball well? That’s good, sure hope so. Not against top 5 hitters in 37 days though!

Exactly. Nestor throwing well in bullpen sessions or in simulated games is meaningless. I hate when managers bring in starters in the middle of an inning. Nestor would have been the call in the 11th to start the inning. But bring Hill in the 10th.

Really thought he was on the roster to fill in and give innings if one of the starters blew up in the first couple of innings. Situational reliever under the current rules is a minimum of 3 batters. Boone said he didn’t expect Ohtani to hit into a dp so he was thinking ahead to loading the bases and pitching to Freeman. Here’s Freeman’s stats against lefties with bases loaded last 2 years.

Plays like that is why I want Gleyber gone. Mental midget
Let's not forget his replacement also pooched a ground ball the next inning. I think the real problem is how they spent six innings chasing Flaherty's curve with home run swings. I mean, is the ball/spin tougher to read during daylight? NYY had something like 11 swing-and-misses against him?

Playoff baseball games are way over analyzed, could have brought in anyone and if they give up a home run it was the wrong move.Freeman gets under that pitch and pops it up and all you would see is articles about how great Boone has been managing the bullpen.

Absolutely true. But. Bring in your high leverage guy (Hill) in that situation who’s been pretty much lights out and let him sink or swim and not the likable lefty who hasn’t pitched to live batters in over a month. One thing about Cortes though. The long layoff didn’t seem to affect his control. Both pitches he threw (1 to Ohtani and 1 to Freeman) were right over the plate.
