2025-26 Coaching Carousel

If what I'm hearing is true, that Lane wanted to coach Ole Miss in the playoff but Ole Miss said no, then I have no ill will at all towards Lane. He was handling it honorably.

Yep but UCLA is a dumpster fire of an athletic department. Hope it works out fir him but seems like he could have done better, maybe next year if not now
Westwood > Solvay

We messsd up the Chesney situation last year. Although he was destined for a big time job. The AD of UCLA was at BC . Wouldn’t be surprised if someone east made the push for this.

Bob will do well there

Yes and no. If Red was about to make the NCAA tournament and agreed to become the coach at--insert rival--are you telling me we would just let him finish it out? C'mon. Moreover, what if a deservedly-distracted Lane preparing for the LSU gig and Ole Miss at the same time... gets blown out in the CFP game at home? Then the message is that even the great LSU coach Lane Kiffing could not win a home playoff game at Ole Miss. Hoewver, if Ole Miss loses in the CFP with the new guy, they get an asterisk for the distraction that Lane caused.

Seems like a bad fit. You might see UVA, Maryland, UNC open up next year. I would have stayed for that. Unless the cupboard is at JMU.

I understand what you’re saying, but I disagree. This is part of Lane’s legacy and I think it would be very unlikely that he wouldn’t be completely dialed in.

As an aside, they shouldn’t even allow coaches to take new jobs until the playoff is over. It degrades the entire sport.

Agree. This is not a great fit for ucla. East coast guy. Program that doesn’t invest. He should have waited for something in his core region. I bet this doesn’t go well.

He couldn't be 100% dialed in. Looking for a place to live in Baton Rouge. Portal preparation for LSU. Maybe 80% Lane > their current coach. But the downside risk is too great...

They could fix all of this by just changing the timelines. But now that signing day starts Dec 3, and only one portal window from Jan 2-12, they basically did this to themselves.

I mean, how did they think it would go?

This sport's leadership is rudderless and full of greed.

Agree. I am shocked he took this. I don't see it being a good fit at all on the west coast. Not just saying that to troll elimu either.

They don't play Ohio State and Indiana next year, but do have Michigan, Oregon, USC. Other than that, it's a reasonable schedule. But they have some rebuilding and investing, like you said, to do.
