2025-26 Coaching Carousel

Over/under on how many times Schiano’s agent has told ped state that the greatest coach in the history of Piscataway is available? I’m going with 5.
Besides, I heard that he worked miracles in Piscataway, doesn't Happy Valley need a miracle worker who can ignore child s** abuse?

Sluka was Chesney’s backup qb at JMU, and JMU lost a ton of players in the Cignetti transition. Whatever individuals think about Fran, Chesney ( who was after all the candidate who came out of the search process) would have been a good hire.
People love their own narratives and love to smell their own farts around here.

Two things can be true:
Last year w McCord was awesome and I thank Fran for that

Also, Chesney is a better hc and would have built a more sustainable program

And bonus also : (he would have left for a really top tier program inside of 5 years..just like Fran if the big boys come calling)

Chesney is an excellent coach but no way to know what he would do here. Obviously he is a better head coach than Fran at this point, but he also would not have brought in the crucial talent/NIL that Fran has/will. Simply put, Chesney has a higher floor and Fran has a higher ceiling. Fran needs to learn how to be a head coach, including staffing decisions, and he seems to be learning the staffing part. He is a cocky guy but this year smacked some of that cocky out of him, hopefully it’s a wake up call.

This is amazing. And zero recruits signing this week too, right? 3D chess at its finest

They are down to 4 verbals (was 6 two days ago, but a couple more flipped).

None of the 4 have signed yet.

Whoever ends up as coach is going to need quite the NIL commitment above and beyond the football portion of the school's $20M. No one will hit the transfer portal harder.

Of course, that assumes they have a coach in place by Jan 2.

All speculation of course so thinking Fran has a higher ceiling than Chesney is just that. That said, Fran needs to work on raising his floor. 7-5 will be just fine next year. Bringing in talent and claiming youth etc only lasts so long. He had a lot of Dino's guys last year as well

Sure it is all speculation. As far as Fran having Dino’s guys, all of those Dino’s guys would likely have left if it weren’t for Fran being hired. A winning season next year is reasonable and hopefully happens

Penn St is running out of options. Maybe they go with Daboll?
I know BC just committed to investing serious money in the program and that they were 2-10 this year but but bringing Bill O'Brien back to PSU would be a suitable solution.

They need Brian Kelly. Kelly needs a championship. That fanbase is championship or bust.

Kelly is not likeable... but PSU has clearly tried many other options (Cignetti, Key, Brohm, Rhule, Sitake) without success. Chesney and Hartline lack P4 head coaching experience (or both). They kicked the tires on Deboer and Urban Meyer. If Fran had just gone 6-6, PSU might have put Syracuse in a position to pay $8M PY or lose him.
