2025-26 Coaching Carousel

This is an ABSURD overpay for coach with one and a half years of P5 success. And it won't stop a blue blood from hiring him away either.
How many consecutive 5 to 7 win seasons would it take for Indiana to regret this?

How? I disagree. He's going to take Indiana to the playoffs 2 years in a row out of the 2 he's been there. Its very clear he's an elite coach
Because it's not enough money to keep him from leaving for a blue blood, and it's a hell of a lot of money if he backslides and turns into a Mel Tucker.

They've had fairly easy schedules the last two seasons, and while the Oregon win was impressive, not many of the other wins were.

This makes him the 3rd highest paid coach in all of College Football. I guess someone could swoop in and make him the highest paid, but if they keep performing at a high level I don't see him leaving making that much money. We'll see

Have a chance to compete for playoffs with more limited resources at Indiana, or compete for titles with unlimited resources at a blue blood?

Money isn't the motivating factor for most football coaches. It will ALWAYS be about winning.

If Bama came calling he'd be gone in a heartbeat.

I read somewhere (here?) that Indiana FB has surprising financial support.

I dont know, i think the third highest salary in college football that takes a guy to his retirement age is pretty compelling...and they have big ten resources and a pretty big alum base. Sure, they wont spend as much in NIL as other schools, but he's already shown he can do well in the portal and get to the playoffs. He's also a good fit with that fanbase and part of the country. I don't see him leaving for a bigger gig.

Also the buyout is probably massive for another school to hire him -- Indiana had to get a massive one to give him that much cash.

How many schools are paying more than 11.6 million?
