What’s sad is you have to wonder how many were advised to enter the portal vs wanting to leave by entering the portal.

Even sadder are the kids pushed out and who won't find homes, but that's what this system created and will only get worse.

where are all the social justice warriors when we need them.

In today's world, it would not be difficult to identify all players by position and rank them in (rough) order by their ability, just as they were ranked out of high school but with more insight into their actual capabilities. A kid should know where they fit into the big picture of college athletics and what realistic opportunities are out there, especially if they have a legitimate agent who knows what he is being paid to do.

Unfortunately, the chaos of the portal often makes for bad decisions for both the player and the school. It feels like a feeding frenzy with a lot of hit and miss decisions all around.

I've never played or coached one second of organized football. I've just been a fan, lo these many decades. If there are technical aspects of defense that I'm unaware of, I plead ignorance, but I almost started crying when I saw these cushions.

The portal has created a place for tons of kids who are a bit better than expected to move up. It has also created a place for even more kids who are not as good as hoped to be asked to move down. The kids who used to try and get better for 2-3 yrs don't get that chance as often now.

But the market for the 2-3 star which is bar the largest is also the most volatile. The big guns with money will pick off the bigger targets the 2nd go around, can the schools like SU do a better job of finding those lower kids who want more time but are being pushed out is always the question. Can we find those Meeks again without the personal knowledge?

So. Who's first in the door starting tomorrow? My guess--Kvon Sherman. An impact upgrade.

I don’t want to be a downer, and I’m confident some of these Toledo guys are upgrades if we get them but Toledo finished 3rd in the MAC I think we need a much more significant talent upgrade than that. There is a chance the playoff expands and if that’s the case that should be the goal to be 1 of 16 or if Big Ten gets their way 2 of 24, not sure Toledo players filling in our defensive holes will cut it. If we are getting a bunch of players who play in Ohio I want it to be Ohio state second stringers or freshman looking for playing time.

I think Sherman is clearly an upgrade. These Toledo guys are really well-coached.

As an Iggles' fan, I was blown away about how NFL-ready Quinyon Mitchell was.

Not advocating taking a bunch of transfers from there. But, if they're solid and steeped in the defensive system the coach will install, I'm all for taking the best ones.

They had a great D, they played very well against P4 teams including Louisville

So talent is now based off team records?
Please go watch the highlights of the Toledo defense, they where so much better then us.
Toledo did have a TOP THREE defense.
You do not do that with a lack of talent.

He had been committed to the Washington Huskies before flipping to OSU a few years back. He's from South Dakota, may decide to drop down a level and go to one of the Dakota schools.
