No more gimmick defenses. The 3-3-5 was enjoyable until we couldn't stop the run.

We have never had that level of D talent even in Coach P’s heyday.

What he have coming back next year is closer to SBC than SEC IMO.

Shafer was gimmicky and could stop the run.

Muschamp has decades of experience coordinating defenses at the highest level.

That is the worry though. He has ONLY been at the highest level.

I am not saying I do not want him. And he is easily a huge upgrade over ERob. At the same time the first year will be rough as he has to adjust what he is used to running to fit our talent level. Had this been 2024 it isn't that big an issue. But as of now the 2026 cupboard is bare. It will be rough for any DC.

Personally I would prefer a young DC who has had to deal with a talent issue or a DC with a gimmicky system.

I’d take SEC level DC over gimmicky or young. He had better talent in the SEC, but went against better offensive talent. Experience is good.

Bringing in Muschamp would be a huge upgrade regardless, not saying he's perfect but compared to what we have seen over the past two years, I don't think there is much disputing that.

I have seen his name linked to the Kentucky DC job under Will Stein the new HC at UK. That would make a ton of sense. OC turned first time head coach brings in AHC/ DC Muschamp to stabilize things. That's a good fit but who knows. His kid could also transfer into UK.

3. Have more points than the other team when the clock hits zero

Everything else is filler.

I am happy to take over as HC if needed but I will settle for D coordinator.

I do hope we could keep him in a non defensive coordinator move even prior to learning this, but I can understand why this would be enticing and a good career decision for him at this time.
