2025 Mets Season

Just curious, what's the potential of Acuna's bat? I have a hole at 2nd on my fantasy team.

He is hitting .288 in 139 ABs so far in his career. 3 HRs, 10 SBs.

I think he is going to hit in the .270-,280 range and get 40-50 SBs a year. 5 HRs a season. Might get low double figures here as he gets older. But it is his first full year in the major leagues. I would expect some inconsistency.

I really hope Soto has a monster series against the Yankees and Michael Kay and the idiots in the Yankee Stadium bleachers lose their minds.

Sad that a team of players and coaches dont even know the tag up rule in baseball

Of the things to be frustrated about in that game, not knowing a tag rule that barely ever comes up is really low on the list.

no excuse to not know the simple rules.

If you have played ball at all especially in the infield you would have had dozens and dozens of tag up plays. In HS when you have 1-2 umps knowing the rules is important.

Not only that, because Lindor didnt know the rule not only did the tag up rule not happen, He also didn't even tag the runner which isn't even a rule. You always complete the play. even if he left early, you don't know if the replay or ump will see it. The tag up can be appealed in real time, after the play, and on the dead ball. But tagging the runner you always do when you get a chance.

Any player in any sport who doesn't know the rule book pretty well isn't doing their job. If you golf you bettter know most of the rules since most of the time there is no referee,

I am amazed how many coaches don't know the rules. There are so many bench guys in MLB and you get limited challenges. What if that was with 2 outs in the 9th of the WS and lost your challenge cause you screwed up that play,

But even more. change the play and add a runner on 3rd who scores on that. tagging the runner out could negate the run. appealing the tag up does not.

C’mon man…weird plays happen. And there’s a gigantic difference between not knowing a rule and not knowing a fairly obscure rule in the split second needed to make a play - in that case real time I thought Conforto was out, then about three seconds after the ump ruled safe I remembered the rule. And this added the ball going off Soto’s glove and getting caught by Taylor - so that was a wrinkle I still wasn’t sure was covered by the rule either.

You’ve managed to “what if” a whole bunch of hypotheticals that didn’t happen to get way more upset about what did happen than is merited. It wasn’t the World Series; there wasn’t a runner on third. It was what it was. There’s way more to be upset about in that game offensively than getting laser focused on one weird defensive miscue.

Nice win today. Mets could have had a sweep but at least won the series. Mets can compete with anyone. Let’s go Mets!
The Mets got through a tough part of their schedule okay and now host the White Sox and Rockies.

But the Phil’s are red hot, have won 9 of q0 and taken a 2 game lead on the Mets. In June, the Mets head to LA to play the Dodgers and have series with the Phillies and Braves.

Meanwhile, Blackburn has one more rehab start. Montas had his first rehab start a day or two ago and Manaea is reportedly about 2 weeks behind him. Not sure what the Mets will do but I assume a trade is probably coming.

Mauricio is killing it in Syracuse since he finally got back and might be factor soon. And McLean has been very good since he was called up to Syracuse and looks close to ready for NY.

The lineup needs to hit closer to the back of their baseball cards. I’m really worried about Alvarez… he tries too hard and chases too much as a result. I don’t want to see him become the next Travis. McNiel and Nimmo are no longer anything more than average players at the plate. The lineup feels very light at the bottom. Maybe we see Maurcio and Gilbert in July?

7-2 since we kicked off with the dodgers series

2-1 against LA
2-1 against CWS
3-0 against Colorado

This team is so strange lol there's been many times where the offense seems dead on arrival and somehow they win games

Stearns and the pitching staff have been remarkable -- big series @ LAD to start the week and a nice reward for the offense @ COL to end the week

5-2 would be a great week

The Phillies played ten straight against last place teams (Rockies, Pirates, As) that are all hot garbage. Their “hot streak” looks like it was a bit of a mirage due to a scheduling quirk.

The gap between good teams and bad teams is as wide as it’s ever been in my lifetime. I thought expanded playoffs would mean teams would try harder to compete since the playoff bar is so low, but it looks like bad teams have decided to take the 76ers “trust the process” approach and be as bad as humanly possible since it worked for Houston. It makes it hard to judge if a team is red hot, or is functionally just playing at an average MLB level against a AA opposing roster.

TOUGH way to lose last night. Felt like they were fighting with fire all night and a mistake to muncy is the difference. Sure we could have done something in the 10th again, but it just never felt like we were in control.

2 to go LA

Yeah that was rough yet given the way this pitching staff is going things are in great shape right now. If we can at least split the series in LA we then get 3 more against Colorado then Washington at home and then further chance in general to create some more space between us and the rest of the NL East

What could have been a sweep, was instead a 2-2 split. 5-2 still in play this week but the Rockies have been hot! Lol

4-0 in LA would have been incredible. But it’s still the dodgers

Just about had a series sweep of LA all 7. they are one guy they trust short and Garrett didnt have it last night. Still if Baty makes a LL throw to home they set up for the 9th.

Trying hard to find the bright side, maybe it’ll be a good thing for the Mets to feel they left a lot on the table against the Dodgers in the regular season, as opposed to possibly getting overconfident.

Weird observation - I’m enjoying Mets games much less this year compared to last season (well…from June on). Last season felt like found money as the team kept winning since it was supposedly a retooling year. This year the team is legitimately good, and with the expanded playoffs it almost feels like going through the motions for four more months until the REAL season starts. Overall I like the expanded playoffs, since years like last year don’t happen without it - but it has a negative impact at times as well.

Easy to find the bright side. They’re essentially two plays away from 4-0. It’s the Dodgers. They’re never going to go quietly

The offense certainly can use some soul searching though

With the current playoff format there is plenty of motivation to win the division. I would do all that I can to avoid playing in that random three game series.

Also, the “championship or bust” fan mentality is particularly dumb in baseball due to the proven randomness of the postseason. My advice for any baseball fan is to focus on the quest for the division title.

Don’t care nearly as much about the division as being a division winner and top 2 seed - but I do keep close track of Cubs and Dodgers games for that reason. Also trying to not get too excited about the Braves struggles since I worry about them catching fire and winning the division - but catching them blowing a 6 run lead in the 9th against Arizona has been a “Mets highlight” of the season so far for me.

(I think the lack of a “championship or bust” mentality creates the issue too. If all that matters is making the tournament, it is a lot more exciting if you’re a bubble team vs a lock. Right now Mets are a near lock, seeding isn’t hypercritical…so it’s hard to get invested in any particular win or loss compared to last year when every loss was a severe blow to playoff hopes.)
